I just made my first batch of agar... And I confess I tasted the leftover agar. Wasn't bad, went back for a second spoonful.

I confess I've lost all faith in purchasing any spawn from outside vendors. I'm doing this shit myself from now on. It's too hard for me to tell if it's my fault or the companies fault. It looks like there might have been mold I missed in my replacement spawn. The mold growing in my oyster bags looks the same as the first one they sent me. Ugggh. Those bags are going outside. I'm going to open one and take a sample of the mycelium and clean it up on agar and then cut a few slits in it and see if I can get some fruits using benign neglect. I ordered three fresh cultures from a vendor with really good reviews on ebay. 100 percent feedback from all 188 customers. I got a lions mane, trametes, versicolor, and blue oyster.
I guess after the pan cyan contam and the oysters I'm done. My ganoderma sessile I did 100 percent on my own with my own grain and substrate is perfect. Also all my purple mystic jars grew out perfect I did myself.
People reviews say his stuffs aggressive. I'll grow it out and see. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hericium-erinaceus-lions-mane-mushroom-liquid-culture-12cc-/222613895597?hash=item33d4d279ad:g:gEcAAOSw6btXRQnh

I confess my four ganoderma sessile bags are my pride and joy. That ganoderma sesille sure loves cocoa mulch. I grew these guys from a wild clone and then put it on rye. Every time I open the closet I just get the sweetest earthy mushroomy smell. I can't wait for my antlers.

This is the reason I suggested Amycel... I love love supporting local farmers but this is what can happen at times..The spawn you get will be clean. You poach the Amycel when you have it...G2G. 3015 is an amazing Oyster.

That stuff is delicious. I used to love malted milkshakes when I was a kid.
Lots of agar won't be so tasty though. (yeast/peptone, or dog food based recipes come to mind)

I've decided to just do it myself Crispykoot. TravelAgency felt my frustration and decided to trade me some wild bratslavian. Luckily I happen to have a nice ganoderma sessile clone to send back to complete his collection of ganodermas.
I'm not really interested in commercial strains. I want something I can play around with that's pretty and interesting to look at. I've just decided to start with cultures I can clean and prints or from the wild from now on.

I bought peptone and realized it was animal not soy based. What's the difference as far as mycology goes? I know one thing animal peptones smell fucking god awful like a rotting corpse.
I've been using MYPA lately mixed with a little strained substrate tea to promote faster leap off. Does peptone really facilitate stronger and healthier mycelium?
