I'm excited because I made a contest! Super sweet maitake dowels for prizes! Surplus from an order I made. 3 winners will be chosen. Just send awesome mushroom porn that you made and the sexiest wins. Anything goes. Even mold and mycelium porn.

I don't fully understand how to grow them yet. All I know is I need some lugs and some wax. I have to drill 1" holes hammer in the dowel and cover with a thin layer of cheese, soy or beeswax. Then something about waiting several months and possibly shocking them into fruting with an icebath. I know you can cultivate them in bags but thtat requires very specific settings. I'm working on figuring out how that works as well. But I got a bunch of really nice ones from a local company for free because they messed up an order. They are starting to turn into one big mycelial clump so I figured it's time to give some away.

I confess, I haven't been able to do myco work for about a week, other then popping in for a quick mist, turn lights on or off or a picture.
Had the maintenance guy here for a few days while My gf or I was home from work fixing the roof and some plumbing, so I haven't been able to make agar or take the time to do transfers. It's been a real pain.
Ended up with all my plates over colonized. Lost track of what a few were cuz I didn't label them properly.
So full of  today.
Even found some black mold on my oyster bucket. So I scrapped it off outside and left it in my balcony.

I have 16 fresh plates to take transfers too in a little bit, and I prepped some grain mixed with a little gypsum, and hardwood pellets for another round at oysters. Gotta PC them after dinner.
Then tomorrow I'm going to prep a few more grain jars for a AA+ plate that's fully colonized and looks really good.

Kicking it into overdrive to make up for lost time.
Not that I need more mushrooms, but I'm chasing those wonderful genetics so it's going to be shoeboxes and coir cakes for a while.

I just poured one of my bacterial bags of pan cyan outside. There was no hope for it. The mycelium was far too weaned by the invader. I don't want a bacteria that strong hanging around in the bin. Maybe I'll mix a liquid poo slurry of worm castings and cow manure and use that to water that part of the mulch patch. Wasn't really trying to grow them but might as well since I got a two layer patch of wood and cocoa mulch now.

UPDATE: Dumped a bunch of shit on top. Good to go. Let's see how long it takes to get outside pans.

I confess I might be on to something. I want to make an assumption based on observation. In my purple mystic culture a few strands grew really rhyzomorphic against some failing weaker mycelium. I harvested those thick strands and sent it off to make cultures and they grew thick and rhyzomorphic. I got lazy and left some jars and there are a bunch of circular colonies. If I harves the really strong rhyzomorphic bits trying to escape the jar I might have the same success with creating a rhyzomorphic strong culture again. I'm still pretty new to this agar stuff so hopefully I described that right. Strong rhyzomorphic mycelium is super good right? Hopefully someone will share their sage wisdom with me.

Also thanks MadHatter. I got some pretty boss jars from that print you sent me.

Generally yes, but some have had better success in a grow from a cottony culture, so it's not set in stone.. Lol I confess im having trouble with remembering all the big words that are involved with mush cult. I used to be on point. Between my son full time and a live in gf , I barely have time to do grain transfers and even soaking grain.lol

I promise I'll try and stop asking questions here very soon. Just getting through my first of everything. For some reason I made the choice to learn how to do a bunch of stuff at once. I was folding a tote up because I wanted to see if I could buy or get some fresh oak logs from the local landscapers. They sell firewood so I figured I'd offer money first. But anyways the bag says 5PP at the bottom and I'm hoping it means I can pressure cook it cause it fucking beats a pillow case or gallon glass jars. I can just rinse it out.

I have a really shitty confession to make. I went to get some logs for maitake from the landscaping company and got sexually harassed. Not like nice harmless I'm an idiot and I don't know how to talk to women flirting. But I got hard core skeeved on. Some guy who couldn't speak English well came out and directed me towards the alley way to the backyard of the place. I stopped and didn't follow him and waited for the guy who could speak English to come out. He was obviously the one in charge since he was in a crisp white polo and jeans with cowboy boots. His English was minimal so it was hard to explain that I needed the fresh cut logs because he thought I was looking for firewood. I said how much and he said take whatever you want for free. I said are you sure. Please let me give you some money. As I was going over the pile he was just standing there giving me the rapey creeper stare. I grabbed a small log because I couldn't do it any longer and said thank you. And as I was going he gave me extra hard core rape eye and said no problem baby anytime and made creepy kissy faces at me. I ended up dumping the log because I didn't get a good look at it and it had a fungus in it already. I just felt so grossed out.  :realpeter:

I did what any normal girl would to self soothe. I bought a 75 quart rolling cooler for my mycology and some cannolis. Then I came home and took a shower and ate the cannolis.

I confess, I'm about to be tripping balls in about 20 minutes, instead of putting spores on agar

I'm sorry that happened to you BC...
I've been the subject of that kind of attention a few times and it really feels nasty and it hangs on you long after you're away from the immediate situation.
Hope you get your head clear of that gunk soon....
Maybe a pint of Ben n Jerry's ?

There are just people in this world that don't respect boundaries in the worst possible way. Just really creepy dangerous people. I've met all kinds of bros and douche bags and fuck boys and women with boundary issues and held my own but this guy chilled me to the bone. It's been a long time since I've encountered someone like him.

But anyways on the happy side of things I bought this humidifier too when I got home. I'm using the money from the pressure cooker refund. I got it solely for my oysters.

Maybe something good will come out of the pressure cooker debacle after all. I'll let everyone know what I think of it for small applications.

I purchased this one and I'm really pleased that it has a humidistat and turns itself on and off within a set range... 85-90 RH or what ever you choose

Well if I feel like I need another one in the future this might be good. If I have the both running if this one shuts off I know to turn the other one off too. <3

Also I may have pan cyan prints for you after all PsiloPsychin! One of the bags got way too bacterial and I had to spawn it in the yard but one was really nice. Check out my new 27QT mono. I think I did this right. Covered it with micropore tape and going to wait for it to colonize. Can I leave it in ambient light or is it best kept in the closet?

Ambient light would be good.

Fresh Air Exchange is important for pans... it is a bit hard to strike a balance between lots of fresh air and maintaining high RH and good substrate hydration... trickier than cubes.

Also the myc at the surface is pretty fragile so don't hit it too hard with misting... fine mist or just high RH is better. I think you have been hanging over in the Official Copelandia / Pan thread... so you probably know all this.

Good luck with them!

My Confession(s):
1) There is a sale 10.99 for a dozen wide mouth quart jars... (normally 15.99). I don't need any quart jars... but I keep going back and staring at them. I may buy a dozen tomorrow.

2) I feel really guilty I have not picked a winner for the July Relationship Confession thread... but I will before next month ... promise!
ut I
3) I'm tiny really excited: I'm on a myco break but I had two pint jars of clean spawn that have been fully colonized and in vitro pinning for about a month... I finally said who cares about my break (just self imposed because I'm busy with other things) and I spawned them to quart PP 5 containers. One MS Amazon (you have the rest of that bunch BC) and One MS Tasmanian. I also had a 1/4 pint of B+ colonized from a very OLD LC of a B+ Clone from 2015. I'm especially excited to see if I can get some good fruits off this one and resurrect my B+ clone.
