Confession:
A 70 yr. old couple approached me after a mutual friend referred them my way. The male is suffering from dementia, and the female has suffered from depression for over 30 years. Neither have done drugs in their life and they are both devote Christians. They have been researching about the effects of psilocybin's therapeutic value. I find it very interesting studying the therapeutic effects of mushrooms.

Sometimes I feel really sad that I have all this specialized knowledge now that I cannot share with other people IRL. I think some of the shit I'm doing is so cool but nobody will understand the joys of milestones and breakthroughs.

Can def relate. In Spain mush cult is in the dark ages, really really backwards, so no way I'm going to find someone to talk about this IRL. But I alleviate this feeling by teaching one friend of mine via Skype who lives far from me in Spain and the fucker is some smart piece of work and a very avid learner. He's doing a lot of agar right now and it's a pleasure to see him progress so fast when only 2 months ago he knew nothing about this.

It isn't a reasonable fear, I get that. I think early on I used peat moss and or jiffy seed mix as a casing and it triched out a few times on me. I blamed the casing but I was a total noob (still consider myself a mostly noob) and I blamed the casing when it was probably bad spawn underneath

Silly man everything can contam ive only had one last casing no contam on the casing always slime mold too. If casing is your game i do it spawning. Also its a Kroger.
I confess irl i talk about edible grows all the time and people just stare like im speaking German. And thats the simple non mushroom grower terms. And sometimes i throw contaminate plates into my in-laws panty drawer because its not like it can get anymore dirty in there

If casings can't contam then why do we pasteurize them? I think it's a very reasonable fear but, as with agar, dont let a simple fear keep you from experimenting and progressing.
You might find that your fears were exaggerated after all.
And lol tump

Coir may not contam, but if you have ever used peat and failed to pasteurize it correctly, then you know very well that casings can contaminate

Fucking love love that shit! Casing makes it so easy..Depends on the growing room, but in open trays, it is almost completely contam free for months. I have trays from mid Dec that are cased and still flushing with no trich. The reason is you can lower and raise the H at the surface of the tray which stops trich and produces lots of fruit. Pasteurizing casing right now...I only have to mist 1 time per day.

I think the whole idea that casings are non nutritional needs to go. Mycelium may not derive nutrition from casing layers but peat will mold.
shit even vermiculite molds if left out wet

well now. all i was saying was that a casing should not comtam. maybe non nutritional should go because i obviously made a generalizing statement that was not accurate. lets re-word.
a casing would only contam if you did not prep it correctly or have awful conditions in your FC.

No shit, I read that vermiculite won't rot, deteriorate or mold. Guess I learned something new.

The same could be said of anything. Nothing should contaminate if it was prepped correctly and necessary precautions taken.
But casings still can contaminate depending on what it is and if it was pasteurized correctly.
