I confess jkz, the bag of Scotts mulch says forest product. It doesn't specify what type of wood it is. I wonder if it varies regionally.
I also confess that most of the failure I do have is due to what mad hatter mentioned. Trying to do too much at once. I am now sticking with 2 projects at a time. I guess the 8 cultures will have to wait haha. If you focus on a few things its far easier to manage. That is unless you don't want to sleep much.

Tried this, with cedar mulch.... epic failure. Now I'm trying a bucket with hardwood sawdust and gold oysters since the weather is so damn hot here right now.
I confess, I made my lady do everything myco yesterday. I showed her how to take prints, and made her do it in my sab. I made her knock a cake outta the jar, rub off the dry verm, and dunk it back in the same jar. I made her spawn the shoebox im using for a battle entry in that other thread. And last night, she took one of the other cakes that finished its dunk (she dunked that one as well) I made her pour off the extra water and case it with straight verm. Those 2 cakes are hers. Completely. She did everything from mix it up, PC it, inoculate it, and now she has it into fruiting. Not to shabby.
DISQUALIFIED!

And eat, I don't think they mind that much what the exact composition of the mulch is if they don't mention it on the bag anyway. So it could be that it doesn't just vary regionally, but also periodically.

So I confess that I think I am done with Ecoearth coir. I used a brick tonight for some plants. I split my brick to speed water absorption. Well I got half way through and decided to attempt to get some pictures of, well stuff that I feel shouldn't be in there. There appears to be bits of sand in there as well as who knows what else.

Damn. I'll have to check mine before I use it.

Sand is silica, they like that, who cares. They grow off soil too if there's enough shit in there. Morelman just mentioned in another thread he sterilizes his coir, and doesn't get issues even when spawned with bacterial grains. I like that idea. I hate vermiculite.
My coir comes at under 1 euro for a brick. I don't know how big a brick is, but the package says it will give 8-10 liters of potting soil, but fuck that, I've never gotten more than 7 out of a brick.

good find madhatter for sure.
wha temps do you store your eco earth at? i store it at hvac room temp. around 76-78. its been a few years since i cracked a brick open. but so far it hasn't been an issue for me this year. i don't ever find particles in mine. i must be close to the source lol. ill look on the back of the label. maybe im getting fresher bricks.
scratch that. its made in San Luis Obispo, California.
