Try AliExpress, instead of Alibaba. It's for smaller quantities but the wholesellers also sell there I think.. Amazon has some pretty good agar deals too, check these out:
1 kg, 40,50 USD
1kg, 42,70 USD
1kg, 23,70GBP, for our UK based members.

I took one of the smaller puffballs before it opened and collected the center of one of those. I'm so excited to grow these! I want to grow a nice bulk tub of them.
That agar isn't as nice as some of the other agar. I read the comments and it's Chinese agar with a lower purity. Quote:

I fixed the link. It was supposed to take you to this agar powder. I like it because it looks finder and better processed and is cheaper. I can make some desserts too. I want to make something with honey coconut milk and mango like the sorbet I make. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Agar-Agar-Powder-5-lbs-Red-Algae-sea-weed-with-free-shipping-/253050052011?hash=item3aeaf55dab:g:pL0AAOSw2kZZbNLI

This thread is still cool, every other thread gets off-topic at some point, and IMHO, the BEST threads get off-topic A LOT. But I fully concur that it's been getting out of hand in this thread.
Myco confession, to kick this thing back on track: Yesterday, I picked 3 Macrolepiota Procera's (parasol mushroom), and even though I know them pretty well and don't need a book to determine them from the poisonous look-alikes, I still get this excited-anxious-carefull feeling when eating them. Like playing russian roulette, but you just took out ALL the bullets from the gun you're holding, but there's also a second gun on the table, and even though you know you didn't, if you would have switched them up, you might be dead in a few... It might sound incredibly stupid, but I kind of get a kick out of that safe place that feels a slight bit dangerous.

I confess I won't be joining in on the filters for a bit. I really do want to try them, but atm money is REALLY tight, and since I still have MP tape and poly, it's gonna have to wait until I get some leeway. Money sucks. It leaves every time it's just getting fun.

I'm with Lizard on this one. Will be trying out those new filters tho, once I have some spare money. My lady just picked me up 2 more rolls of the good mp tape, so I have 4 rolls of it now, and only use it on my tubs (which never gets replaced lol) and on my no pour plates (which gets replaced every time). Unmodded jar lids for life over here lol
Glad you're back to grow some shrooms with us again tho Eatyu!

I agree that this thread is better when it is more focussed On Topic I tolerate digressions now and then but I really do appreciate when several of you self police a bit by asking people to get back on topic.
The topic... the strange things that amateur mycologists think, feel, and do that is unique to our hobby really is interesting. I also think sharing these things helps build bonds in our community, we learn from each other, teach one another, develop empathy for one another and celebrate our uniqueness as a community.
Confess away folks
I confess that I look forward to learning things every day on the shroomery

confession: I've been thinking of just cutting squares out of the hood filter material I have laying around to swap the pinky with (edit: to be clear, I have not used the pinky, just swapping as in potentially using). I thought about it a few months back, but then decided to give MP tape a try. I'm not completely in love with MP tape. It holds up well with cubes, but I think for my Hericium, the filter material will be a lot better. I'll try the filter material with cubes too of course.
And Eat, I don't mean any disrespect by this, and I still want to try the pinky stuff, though I might check out what they have at the local fish stores first (I have about 3 or 4 options to pick from so they're bound to have at least something similar). And I do think you're overhyping it all but I think it's funny shit so I'm down with it.
And another confession: You guys, you know who you are, the off topic bashers, yes you Psilo, among others, are the reason I started the I'm so excited thread :p This thread generates so much excitement with me, and I noticed that it was mostly situated in the off topic posts, but they don't go with mush cult OTD because it's about mush cult

This is just great!

I thought it was sweet and people were interested! Might just be that there aren't a ton of folks growing pan cambo and don't appreciate your pinning technique.

You have pics of them MadHatter? I'd love to see them! I think it was you who mentioned it to me a few weeks back, and I'm thinking I might have even done the same a year or so back, but when you said it I cased a bunch of my full plates too, and have been continuing to do so! So sorry if I didn't mention it or anything, but thanks for bringing it up and I really dig it!

I'm gonna case a plate of Serbica with a few chips of sterilized wood, hopefully I'll be able to catch a clone from it in time..
