Dude!!! Do the chickens ever exhibit strange behaviour after eating subs?
Would you feed them Hpoo subs?

well.. If you can feed em Hpoo, then you technically would be recycling poo into new poo
You could grow oysters with spent cube sub, supplemented with chicken-cycled spent cube chicken poo You could then use the oyster spent sub as a soil additive for your own veggies, and feed the remains of the food to the chickens. Full cycle FTW

Just got in from the weekend and I'm dead tired. I confess that almost everyone who has received my gourmet mushrooms has remarked on how nice they look compared the what they usually get and for some reason were really amazed at how you could still see the gills and the tiny bits of veil remnants sill on the dried ones and the big perfectly shaped caps. Are most shrooms floating around really that shitty or is it just my area or is it my attention to detail when drying and storing. I also confess that giving them to a chosen few safe peeps as gifts and discussing how they are cultivated and the work I am doing to produce something more potent creates an excitement that's going to be beneficial to my future. It kind of sucks having a clandestine hobby that you really like that you can't talk to you friends about. To me it's akin to if I started hiding the fact that I liked photography from my friends.

Oh most of my friends are nerds. That's not the issue. It's just too many people knowing. When I get a lot of shrooms I just want to get rid of them all at once and forget about them. But you have to know the right people and it takes a certain kind of fishing to find them. Just dropping a little bait here and there. It's a careful and tedious long game. I know it sounds kind of silly now just starting out and I have no idea how I'm going to do it. But if I ever had enough money I'd start an actual gourmet mushroom farm. I really do like cultivating that much. Like If I could find amazing new techniques with lots of practice and hard work to cultivate some of the most prized gourmet edibles plus capital I'd go for it.

Honestly gourmet would be sweet but finding the customers to push out 1000lbs a month to would be hard ... i like growing reishi because of the tinctures you can sell them for 5$ for a month supply about an liquid oz and you can easily make 1000oz's a tub but i wouldnt just grow gourmet unless i could push 1000lbs per month or it wouldnt be worth it

1000 pounds of Oyster or something like that per month is an incredible amount of work with out the right gear...and help. As one guy I could only pull 300ish pounds per month and it begins to suck if you can't market it all on time.
The medicinal idea is cool and there is a big market for dried Shiitake, Maitake, Reishi etc...Takes all the pressure off when you can dry the product to preserve it.
Also seems to be a market for medicinal mushroom additives for kombucha brewers. That stuff is popular and on tap these days.

I definitely would be able to do 1000lbs with the space and everything but like you said even 300 wpuld be hard to push at first all that work just thrown away before you start rollin ....
Id have to know i had atleast 3/4 of what i grew sold before i grew it ya i seen shiitake goes for like 5$ a dried ounce which isnt bad considering it will hold for months

I'm full of sadness. One of my pan plates went really bacterial. I put the pans on older plates with only one layer of tape. I have one in a newer jar and a few still left on the older plates. I'll leave them and see what happens. I had to toss that super bacterial plate. Nothing to save there. Three out of four purple mystic plates look excellent. Lots of nice growth. One just looks like too much hidden bacteria. The mycelium is growing all sorts of wild and crazy. The newer jars with two layers of pore tape are better than the rounds. But yeah I'm really hoping I get something out of these pan plates. Good news is I know the spores are still good. I'll just cook up new dishes and try again. Whats the best way to get rid of all the agar in my glass plates without making a mess. Can I just dump it in my garden and then wash them and start over?
Is there a good recommended place to find information here on transferring plates. I want to figure out whats next. I have all these nice quarter size growths and want to know what size I need to wait till before I transfer them. I'm assuming my goal is to get a nice monoculture. Can you blend the contents of a petri dish and suck it up with a syringe for inoculation. Once again looking for a good concise write up unless someone feels like taking some time out to answer a few questions. I just don't want to end up using outdated information by accident.

Munchs blenderless li ... or you can squirt sterile water in your dish and swish it around and suck it back up ...
What do you mean transferring plates?? After you get the myc the size of a nickle you transfer a few times or if you think the plates are bacterial you get the myc before it pops throught the agar ..
It looks almost a clear growth .. and i use single layers all the time of micropore tape with no issues and i dknt even wrap my plates in foil ..
Dont over think it haha

It looks like I'm finding most of my answers in Paul Staments "Growinng Gourmet and Medicinal Mushroom so I think I'm ok now.
Hopefully my answers to cleaning and reusing dishes is there.
Yeah I know what you are talking about with the clear growth. I can usually see it with my really bright flashlight. The plate I tossed was beyond redemption. I came back from the weekend and it was a layer of slime. The other ones though look promising. Will take care of stuff when I wake up.
