My wife supports the hobby.  Hasn't complained once about the loss of space in the bedroom.  Rarely gives me a hard time about my shroomery time and only does cause we have kiddos.  She does however complain about not being able to trip.  The setting is never right.  She is afraid of one of the children "needing her" while tripping.  She wants to be camping in the woods.  So many excuses that I have multiple answers for.  Well she finally decided on the next full moon to take the dose.  I am gonna set a tent up for her in a secluded area on our property.  Set up some tiki torches.  Take care of any of the children's needs (which I think I already do).  Make her a 2-3g PE lemon tek tea.  I am very excited for her

I confess that I have been printing everything I can find in the pan species lately since it's been so rainy. So far no luck. Just lots of brown prints.

Uggh I wish I could tell the difference between cobweb and wispy mycelium better. I'm thinking it's cobweb though because the suspicious areas have little puddles of what I think are metabolites. I have been rubbing the metabolites all over the cobweb hoping it might help fight it. Another day or two though and if it doesn't look better it's going in the backyard. While cobweb is pretty harmless it's annoying as fuck and I don't want it hanging around my room.

Especially with all my new jars and projects in the making. I don't want this permanent battle with cobweb.

the chances are it's not cobweb and some sort of pin mold. upload pics please. is this on agar? if so I have even higher doubts it's cobweb.

Here are the pics. The stuff that looks like shiny white specks is water droplets from spritzing.

Just a Noob
Is that a contest entry?

I didn't do shrooms or acid for about 15 years for the same reason as your wife.
Even if the kids were safe with a competent care giver I kinda worried that if there was an emergency I would not be able to fully engage my responsibilities...

Yeah, it could be.  She is a great partner who allows me to explore things that I need to.  Also since I have been tripping 1-2 times a month my other vices are no longer habitual.  I want her to feel free from the need to feel needed.  I had such a nurtured childhood that I am confident  with myself.  She didn't get that so much and works herself to death for others.  To the point of being walked on

Damn brother that is real. That's most women unfortunately. I can relate minus the life scenarios.
Kind of just how the feminine archetype goes though. Regeneration of others but no generation of self. Or vice versa if they woman is basically an over compensating twat, more of the extremist feminist kind of woman. Or the 'let me talk to your manager, single mom @34 y.o. only generation for self and no capacity to regenerate others.

But your girl is lucky to have someone who wants her to know that freedom. I hope she can get to that point. It will not happen over night but the trip should definitely show a lot of doorways. :awesomenod:

Fuck me. Just studied up on pin mold. Looks like lots and lots of fucking pin mold. Tiny little black specks. Oh well off to the outside pile. Who knows. With all this rain and insane heat and humidity they might grow. I guess the only saving grace is I instinctively realized something was wrong no matter how subtle and slightly off the smell was. It looks like the metabolites are an incredibly reliable indicator of contamination no matter how big or small. Good future knowledge. But seriously. That's what I get for mashing a cake up with unsterilized brf and coffee out of boredom because I have nothing to grow at the moment. But it's funny how much I learned from being curious and doing dumb shit. Although eventually I'll have no excuse for this. Can't wait till I get something nice on agar so I can get this shit done right.

Fuck you so hard pin mold. :mydesk:

the thing that fucked you up is putting untreated, wet coffee into and open air tub. mixing with verm would have likely produced some decent results

I confess I've never understood why people mess with coffee grounds...

It often leads to trouble and I have yet to see a definitive advantage to doing it other than it allows you to reuse spent coffee. I don't have any problem throwing mine away or putting it in the compost heap, but it wont ever go in my substrate.

Contest relationship confession.

It was 9 years before I gave my wife shrooms. I wouldn't let her try them as she had a lot of issues from her past that I was worried would surface and cause her a very negative emotional 1st trip that she may have trouble handling. When I finally gave her 2 grams she ended up loving it and has yet to have any kind of trip like that. I love being able to trip with my wife.

When dealing with wood lovers these potential bad experiences never cross the mind. If the thought of a bad trip were to come into my head, i would postpone for sure knowing i just set myself up for a bad time. Even with others iv'e noticed that bad trip isn't in the conversation when talking about doseing. Getting to high is almost always brought up but never in a bad trip type way, more of a "Mind if i stay because i am having trouble functioning in public" type way.
Observation only. I am no better than any body!

Most Mexicana grain prep recipes call for adding strongly brewed coffee into your grain soak.  Coffee adds a little bit of nitrogen, but it is finicky.  You have to be spot on with your pasteurization technique in order to succeed with spent coffee grounds.  They are not needed but the mushroom mycelium likes to munch them.  Heck, if you are having that much trouble with them, go with hydrating, and pasteurizing them separately, then mix them together with your other sub materials.

There is an oyster mushroom farm i think in India that grows their mushrooms off of straight spent, and sterilized coffee grounds.  If you have good sterile technique throwing a little bit of spent coffee grounds (3-5% by volume of materials dry) into a sterilized substrate is less finickier than pasteurizing them.  As you mentioned, recycling them as a growing medium for mushrooms is better than throwing them away.

Adding coffee - brewed coffee is not the problem - it's the spent coffee grounds.
I have often added coffee to grain soaks for just the reason you mention.
No grounds in my sub tho...

Holy shit I went outside to dump the pin mold bin and found this mushroom by where I dump my cakes. I thought a giant mega leucistic cube from the first batch I dumped popped out of the ground until I brought it inside. It doesn't turn color when I squish it so I'm pretty sure not so much. Lame. Oh and that's my basement floor. That's why it's so cruddy.

I just got an identification and it's most likely some type of pluteus. I can't even make dinner with the dang thing.

I will say this Ham... I see hundreds of pounds of coffee grounds going in the trash at a local coffee house ... maybe sterilization and mixing it with sawdust and Vern would be a nice way to reuse it for oysters

Beyond just silly entertainment part of the whole reason to do these things is to heal from the past traumas.
