Just bought 12 half pint ball jars. Yeah the prism jars are jelly jars I believe. Nope got the clear ones. How would I PC them with the metal lids on for agar. The store didn't have any plastic lids left and they don't know when they are getting more.

Great BlackCat... they are pretty good as a petri dish alternative... a bit of a reach to get in there but I hate throwing plastic away all the time... I may just switch back to using jars too.

I confess...
I'm really fuckin' pleased with my avatar photo (zoom in on that shit and soak up the macro goodness):

Hey EAT... my life has been dragging so bad I went to the doctor today.
No clear indication yet but we will look at my blood work later in the week, go see a cardiologist next week, see a sleep apnea specialist, and hell we may even measure my testosterone.

I think you missed my question. If they have the metal lids do I just put a hole with micro pore tape and a paper towel with foil over it like the pasty plates?

That should work. Make sure your hole is the right size and you're good.

Yeah that should do it, but in the end you should get you some of those sweet white plastic lids they sell in the canning department for freezer jars - they say not for pressure cooking but they work fine, just never screw them on tight before PC cycle. Tighten to just finger tight then back off about 1/4 turn.

After the initial cave in of the plastic ones I'll be sure to do that. Don't need broken glass. So a 1/4 inch? So excited!:nyan:

I like the 1/4 pints better. I suggest flipping the lid so it doesn't seal and the lid comes off easy.

I have not been able to find those sold locally yet, at least not in 12pk. I'm not paying like $6 for 4.

I just discovered the tech for that and it looks fun. I haven't made my own pancakes yet. I'm ordering me a pan print from my fave vendor as soon as I get paid. Would love to grow something a bit stronger.  :busytripping: Making pancakes making mushroom pancakes.

Oh they don't come in any bigger than 4 packs where I'm at or at least I haven't seen them. I bit the cost and paid 4.99 for 4.

I got a dozen awhile back. just a separate pack of plastic regular mouths made me set, likely for cheaper than the bell 4 pack of baby food jars. the only reason the lids say not for processing is because they don't seal. they are for freezing. but perfect for mush cult

Hmmm, found me some 12pk 4 oz jelly jars on walmart.com for $7. Free shipping on orders $35+, when I get me some $$ I think I may have to order 5 of the 12pk for agar work. For $35 to my door I am cool with that.

I saw some good deals for the lids on ebay. I'll order some later.

These lids intrigue me. What do you think?

I was lucky to find the four pack of half pint wide mouth jars at my store for 4.99 I guess. I like them because they have a larger area like a regular petri dish.

I did just find some clear PET plastic lids that are made to just sit over wide mouth jars. They are thin but that plastic shouldn't melt until like 600f so I wonder if they could be used like lids to petri dishes on the wide mouth pints. I could use saran wrap like a bunch of ppl do for the petri plates.

these are awesome! I would get some but they aren't worth the money you're spending on them
