The glass ones are rumored to be really annoying to work with. I have 2 glass dishes sitting around but haven't poured them yet. They seem real annoying though, the space between the lid edge and the bottom edge is too big to wrap easily, they weigh a bit, and they're way less stackable. You would literally need a petri rack for the glass ones to be safe. Or plastic containers or something. Plus, after some time, when working with several strains, you end up with having 50 plates running and 30 to transfer to, so that makes 100 glass plates a minimum investment. Better try it out with a couple first, so you can experience what it's like to transfer from one glass plate to another.

The bottom link said they were autoclavable, think she could pasty plate them? Or would that not work.

Nah, don't think so. I think the pasty plates would bubble up too much during cooldown in the pc, the plates are too low for that, you'll get agar all up the lid, and the visibility is already less than with polystyrene plates. I think condensation might be worse too.

If going that route and you have access to an ace true value or walmart they sell 8 oz kerr wide mouth jars that rock for no pour.

I prefer them to petris and pour agar by far.

Get the plastic ball lids as they are really easy to work with and you can use them unmodded by just leaving the lid slightly loose while pcing.

ask madhatter and hamloaf as they've also have good results with these.

Guess it's personal preference but The durability, visibility, and ease of use with these is supreme.

Of coarse petris have slightly better visibilty but that for me comes with downfalls...  still the visibilty on the jars is much better than any other no pour agar I have tried.

And since I've gotten so used to using the plastic lids for grain, using them with no pour is like heaven.

:shockedpussy:  Yassss! This is exactly what I want and a much better idea. I will be doing this from now on. Are you saying I do everything with the jars just like pasty plates? So you don't need a hole in the plastic lids when you PC? If I only have metal lids can I just put a hole and micropore tape like the pasty plates?

Also I confess that there is probably bacteria growing in this dish I did an open air transfer with this weekend just fucking around. I see tiny white dots on the agar. If I can get my shoulder just feeling good enough I'll knock up the other 7 dishes tonight in a SAB.

i took about 15 different types of grains and started making up all kinds of different cake mixtures in search of some mutant blend.

so far i found a 7 food blend that makes my cakes retain more water and produce larger fruit other than that the potency is debatable.

Hehehe yeah. Crazy stuff. I'm going to have to burn this plate with fire. I don't even want to open it for a photo.

I totally forgot I was soaking a pan of grain and I smelled something really nasty like a dead animal. Apparently if you soak grain for almost two days it smells like something died. That went down the toilet.

I went for a walk to photograph the sunset and ended up stuck in the middle of the awesomest thunderstorm ever. I was drenched and it was so loud. On the way home I decided to stop at the supermarket. I went to the baking isle to see what they had for ball jars and lids and ended up leaving with 12 half pint jars. Now I can make clear plates. I also discovered neon food coloring. It's all your fault guys for suggesting things that my shoulder hurts more from carrying stuff. But this will be fun. Once my other plates grow I'll have something to transfer them to.

I confess, my heart beams with joy when I hear people tell my buddy that those shrooms are really good!
I also confess I feel pride knowing I'm the only one in town that's opening minds and hearts.
I want to create a campaign that educates people on magic mushrooms, and subliminally make them want to do it.. stickers, tags, maybe a website that just educates and dispells the myths. Jus get the magic thought out there.

Those wide mouth half pints really do work good for cleaning up cultures. With the plastic lids, light shines through rather well when held close to a light.

What if I can't find plastic lids. How would I PC them with metal lids instead?

I decided to give up on my cakes and put them to the side in my basement because I figured they were done. They started pinning again despite neglect. So that's flush 5 now I guess. I should probably bring it back in and mist it.

This is a great way to go especially if you want to do a pre pour and PC them. I will caution you though... Make sure you do not pick up a case of prism jars .. that will make visibility ZERO ... most of the wide mouth half pints (8 ounce) are just clear glass but sometimes they are cute and do that prismed glass thing so watch out.
