I did a spit take when I clicked on that pic! Ever see the Thing? I think that's what it's called...about the alien in the science lab in Alaska that morphs into the dog... I hope you used fire, mang.

Looks a few grains in your sub survived and sprouted. Given the proximity I would suggest they were also your trich vector.

But germinating grains don't make my Corona come out of my nose! Haha.. thanks for the science on the trich, though!

That actually happened to a certain brand of natural soaps. They incorporated seeds of a plant in their soap bars to give a better texture or an abrasive effect, don't remember which, but they had loads of people send them stories about the seeds germinating in the siphon.

Having a hard time adjusting from pouring 20, 100mmx15mm Petri dishes to 25 with the same amount of agar (500ml). Considering going back to pouring sleeves of the 20 packs.

I got all excited today because the misses came home with a 60x magnifying glass with built in light. Ended up using the light to look up real close with my own eyes, because the magnifying glass couldn't get focused on the agar, the lid makes it too far away... Bummer...

Tonight I'm taking 6 plates, moving transfers off them, and inoculating 6 q jars. Just because I have extra lol. And the nicest plates will go to three bags too. Just a chunk here and there, all over. I have some. Clones, some lb+, some. Lucy's, and some Pesa!

I meant healthy myc. the thick 'sectoring' at 12-1 is a telltale sign it'ts trying to get out of there

Well I had many many bacterial plates of my Costa Rica culture. They had the oily like bacteria living in them. It looked just like what Boogie posted. From time to time the mycelium would kind of shoot out some rhizo like growth, obviously trying to get away from the bacteria. I failed and finaly just tossed the culture as I couldn't get it clean.
Ok so in that pic, what he calls wispy, almost mold like mycelium, well I have seen that on basically every plate that had that ninja like bacteria. The rhizo growth is a healthy and vigorous strain trying to outcompete the bacteria. I'm not great at explaining this but if he inspects it really closely he will notice the oily like film from the bacteria. It is almost like the bacteria lives in between the surface of the agar and the mycelium itself.

Not necessarily. I'm assuming this is a multispore inoculation? Thats a telltale sign of diverse growing traits.
How about the cracks running through the surface of the myc? Hardly a thing to ignore....
I think the owner of the plate has too much airflow due to whatever filter they are using. This may be confirmed by the overall dull appearance of the culture

Actually thats a plate i already transferred and was about to toss the crack is from me loosening it up to throw haha it is a clone but its possible it could be drying out a little ...
The culture is a year old and wasnt taken care of or stored properly in a shed during freezing weather at night ... for about 3 weeks then i went over flipped out on my cpusin and moved it into the house ...
