Re: TRUE CONFESSIONS - of an amateur mycologist [Re: TheMadHatter420]

I think I may have overdid the food coloring a bit but I don't care. It reminds me of my favorite fungus the orange jelly fungus. It even feels like it. Yes I played with the leftover agar a little like a kid. This has to be the most fun I've had with cultivating. So here are my first pda pasty plates. Looks like my favorite vintage Fenton milk glass cream dish has become my new favorite thing to pour agar with. Perfect mess free pours. I did waste a bit more agar in the pan then I would have liked to. Next time I'll scrape it down more.

How long can I leave them in my cooker for? I am starting to get a bit tired and don't know if I'll get to putting spores on them tonight.I'd prefer to not have to put them in the shared fridge upstairs if I don't have to. My roomies will be like what's this. And I'll be like oh nothing. Just orange potato jelly treats.

looks awesome. good job homie:thumbup:

agar IS fun. growing cultures is a hobby in itself. fruiting them is almost like a big prize:cool:

ive left pasty plates in the pc for days after running for 20min. no problems.

my first plates were dark purple. that orange is awesome. and ive never put my plates in the fridge. i just leave em on a shelf.

I'm full of sadness. My pasty plates are warping. Does that mean the hole is too small? It's like they are crumpling up. i just had to reshape them all. :frown:

Did they warp as they cooled down? If so yes, your hole was probably too small to let in sufficient air as the air inside the warm pasty plate cooled and contracted.

I confess I think Pasty Plates were a brilliant idea and have helped many people, but I never felt compelled to use them to replace my agar work on petri dishes because I like a clearer view of my myc.

You should always let them cool in the PC as well. I took some out early once and they were ridden with bacteria. Fucking translucent shit.

Make a bigger hole, you should be fine.

I also started putting the holes and tape on the side of my jars. Less worry about wet filters.

So I just spent time reshaping all the dishes and making larger holes. I'm not good at explaining things but I'll try my best. I made my holes with a hot object which left little thin flaps of plastic sticking out at the bottom. That and the holes being slightly too small all contributed to a vacuum I think. I noticed the only plate that didn't warp had a larger hole so I'm going with that. If I'm correct the agar should remelt and flatten itself out. After this experience I am saving up for some glass reusable petri dishes. I want to be able to hold them up to the light and see through the bottom. This will be good enough for my application I'm using them for right now which is to just grow some clean myc to do a tiger drop into my jars.

My 1st impression, is an air current fucked you. Like I just do not know how that much can fall off your hand or your scalpel. When I get satellites it is 1 maybe 2 once in a great while.

I'm fucking pissed this

Turned into that. How did I fuck up that bad

I have a room sealed with window stuff from winter still. No air conditioning. No disturbence.

This is me right now :microwave:

I'm about to just drop some cash buy a new sab air purifier bleach.....alot of bleach and salt. I'm so over this. Only other thing I can think of is inadequate sterilization.
Idk I'm hitting this bong way to hard.

I literally did SAB work the other day with the window open, door open, and gf cleaning the room. Plates are still clean.

Maybe you need a FH.. Or some sort or air purifier.
I'd smoke myself to death if that happened to me.

I don't think that plate has contamination
Those weird sectors look organized and like cube mycelium.

Microscope only 120$ or so for a pretty not bad one
