Wait, why were you sterilizing lids and jars by themselves? Is there anything in the jars? They get sterilized when you put them through the cooker during the actual pc cycle.

I'm kidding...nothing in the jars they had bacterial spawn so I cleared em out and am running it all through Pc to sterilize it for future use. Also I'm trashing these kids and be buying new ones. Ps.s. What do you guys do with lids that begin to rust?

Ya that was my original question. You don't have to sterilize the jars before putting grain in them, they get sterilized during the actual grain pc cycle. That is what I was trying to say in my first reply

So corrosion isn't a problem? They bleed like iron or something when there wet and I'm worried it's messing up my grows. @nate sorry if I came off sounding like a jackass I was just messin around. I pressure cooked because they had a lot of green bacterial slime and mold in them and I didn't want that in my place with the possibility of spreading more bacteria so pc seemed like the easiest thing.

I spray rubbing alcohol up to my elbows, then rub that shit in before a session. I also try to keep lotion on my arms, I figure moisturized skin should flake a lot less than dry skin, lol.

Running out of water can do that, and a lot more if you let it go further, and also if you use a towel to cover the bottom, although more when turned off as soon as you notice something's off (provided you're in the same room), a crispy towel will probably be the worst you'll encounter. Better be safe though and use jar lids, a rack or aluminum foil balls.
Look up a refractometer
I knew the device itself, my dad had one when I was little (he made wine back then), didn't know what it was called though
And I know where to get one around my parts too :p

So far so good? I'm a total noob (first grow) and I started w/BRF cakes. From what I hear they're pretty forgiving, so I'll know better when I do agar.
12 jars from 4 homemade syringes with one that got what I guess is Bacillus sp.. One just stalled. (Please don't yell at me for the syringes...supplies were free and I was bored.)
Hoping to get some plates going before next month and test out each syringe...I'll let you know what pops up then.
