Will do! I didn't know Mr. Alien was there but he told me he knew the site and had visited it in the past. What about the bastard? I miss him, he stopped posting here a long time ago.

i think he got banned for posting inappropriate images(or my bad eyesight is reading mr. allen not mr. alien). i may be wrong though its been a while.
anyway back to the rules. i confess, i got some germination today, worked hard, ate a great dinner with friends, drank good beer. life is good.

oysters are great for recycling old newspaper. they love eating that shit up. its not going to yield like straw but hell if you have a ton of it sitting around, why not use it? and it requires no heat treatment at all. just soak the newspaper in water for about an hour. then spawn directly. gotta love oysters. they taste so damn good. im not a big fan of the pink oysters myself. they look awesome but the flavor is a little woody. but blues and pearls are yummy. and king oysters are like butter. they melt in your mouth.

I confess I always though oysters grown on newspaper must taste like yesterday's news...
Sorry
No seriously I always thought they would taste nasty. Learn something new everyday.
I always thought cardboard boxes from the bike shops would be a great oyster substrate

I confess those melted lids put a tear in my eye. When i was young my Mom would bust out wine bottle candles when she would have a party.

That what's so amazing about their abilities to break stuff down into component parts and only use the bits they want, leaving some things for plants to grow on, and so on, isn't it? Nature's terraformers

You don't need to sterilize or pasteurize old newspaper for oysters? What's the plan? Just shred them and soak?

Exactly. Man, oysters are so damn hardy, I've seen teks where they just soak a whole freaking phonebook in hot water and when it's cooled down, just flap the pages by 10-20 at a time and put in store bought oysters either cut in pieces or put in a blender. Bag it and wait, it won't flush like you would expect a good culture to, but then again, I think it was more meant as a fun experiment to do with kids and stuff like that.

Come to think of it, I really should do some easy AF grows with my son, where he just gets to start from the spawn stage... As he gets older I'll be able to show him the ropes with agar, but for now, let's keep it simple

If you use a mono for Oysters, have them grow out of 2 inch holes in the tub into an environmentally controlled space. 14L sterilires work well for this with holes in the lid and/or sides...

Confession: I bought a bunch (pounds) of Kratom when I thought it might be scheduled (and cause prices to go up and quality to go down). Now with all this Kratom laying around I take it on pretty much a daily basis. I have just started thinking ... why not? Why think of it any differently than the coffee and alcohol I drink on pretty much a daily basis?

Most ingest drugs as some form of crutch. Just a matter of how heavily you want to rely on that crutch I guess. It's for each individual to discern.. but it's just balancing 'to what point of relying on the crutch does it become unhealthy?'
Escapism is natural and so is wanting to experience new things. But we should not WILLINGLY feed the unnecessary neurosis or apathy of drug abuse.
To each their own. I do drugs. But just because I like to ingest a few grams of Cannabis concentrates a week doesn't mean I should double or triple it because 'fuck it'
Imo we should always be looking how to need what we ingest less frequent and less in dose.

I confess, I feel like I'm in a mushroom zen phase. I eyeballed grain to soak yesterday, and without even knowing exactly how many free quart jars I had, I had exactly enough grain for every free jar! I also made the jars as even as can be.lol 23 jars to work with tonight Actually I didn't even eyeball, I just poured out the grain, shifted out the sunflowers and bits of twig till my pot looked full enough to get serious.lol
