I just watched it go right in and through my glove and all I could think about was having to change gloves and clean-up/wait for blood to stop. Should of just tried blood agar straight from the tap.

My first time using a MSS I stabbed myself in the thumb before inoculating anything. That was pleasant.

I switched to the blunt syringes. They'll last way longer too.

I was actually gonna buy a pack of blunt ones, I don't actually stab them into anything, blunt should be fine. I just see most of them come non-sterile which is odd.

Might be surprised how many things would grow from that. Humans are full of life.

To that point I confess I have to throw out a bunch of no pours, I'm not even gonna clean em out. I was working with what I now know to be a nasty bacterial infection coursing through my body. Plates have some bacterial colonies and I'm not gonna chance it.  Almost died of sepsis. Just did a 4 day stint in the hospital. Turns out I am diabetic too.

Did the diabetes lead to you being immunocompromised allowing for bacteria to enter your bloodstream?

Just trying to be certain you aren't saying working with bacterial plates lead to sepsis.

I confess that I haven’t stabbed myself with a scalpel but I did get one stuck in a bottle of soap after throwing it across the room

Yes the diabetes absolutely was the root cause. I'm throwing them out as the infection was raging at the time I pulled the transfers on my arm. I'm more afraid the nasty bacteria is what's growing in there. I bleached most surfaces and lysol bombed all the soft surfaces. I don't want to spread it in my house and affect other people or my pets.

They would not tell me specifically what bacteria it was, however the infectious disease specialist, my doctor, and the people that came to work on me were very concerned.

No symptoms from the diabetes??

I’m pretty paranoid about that.

Bleach and lysol are terrible for the human immune system and your microbiome.

My buddy was a type 1, diagnosed in his 30's. Went out drinking hard, thought he had the flu.|
Nah bloodsugar was nuts. Some patients report feeling better on the high side.

Not really many symptoms some days I'd be sluggish or grouchy I just chalked it up to getting older and the abuse I'd put myself through/ a life of manual labor.

Have your gp check you a1c it's the only way to know. I fucking hate needles but it's worth.

I'm never one to normally bleach or Lysol the whole house, I fully believe in small exposure to build immunity but this time was something truly nasty. I went from a tiny cut to full blown sepsis in 2 days. I try to keep exposure to harsh chemicals at a minimum.

Wow that's quite a pickle. You poked yourself with a scalpel?

Nope just a simple cut not even sure how it happened. Just like a little 1cm scratch. Just worried the bacteria growing on a few plates is the same from the infection as I wasn't wearing sleeves while it was slightly infected

DM also makes your small capillaries more leaky, wonder if that can uptake bacteria more readily.

"high blood sugar will impair the ability of white blood cells to come to the site of an infection, stay in the infected area, and kill microorganisms. Because of the buildup of plaque in blood vessels associated with diabetes, areas of infection may receive a poor blood supply, further lowering the body's ability to fight infections and heal wounds."

I'm a newbie. Haven't tried it yet but want to. Does everyone grow their own shrooms? I smoke weed and live in California. I find it odd that something grown in the ground is illegal. Makes zero sense. I'm really drawn to the law of attraction and spiritual side of life. I want to experience this, but am lost on where to go. Do I just order a kit? How did you guys start?

I confess I'm tempted to taunt anyone that believes in magic, even if that would be rather rude.

Sis: try making a post in the "Getting Started" forum, or read the sticky posts at the top of that section. Or to give you a brief answer you can search for at your leisure: "pf tek".
