I saw in another thread how you run your PC on a wood stove and are off the grid. That is so frigging cool to me. I've always wanted to live off the land like that. I started doing a bit of homesteading (on the grid), but ended up moving back to a city so had to back-burner it.

Everyone said that when I hit my late 20's, I'd gain weight. Nope. Metabolism is fked.
Do you smoke weed? Weed is like crack for me as far weight is concerned. When I quit, I gain about 40 pounds in just a couple months and it falls off as fast as I put it on when I start smoking weed again.

My heaviest was 190, which looked awesome but I hated feeling like I was going to die if I ran up the stairs, I always had the sweats like I ate 6lbs of wings. I'm only 5'7 so ~185 is good enough for me. 265 is pretty heavy.

I confess, pastywhyte and many others on here are old enough to be my father.
Waiting for my 75x and attempting to run bags in my presto 23qt has been the worst part of cult for me so far.
Staring at the stove for the better part of 4 hours and making small, almost unnoticeable adjustments, just to watch the pressure go too high and then too low over and over again... and then opening it up to find a bag has popped or the corners have deformed so much they rip as soon as you shake the bag.
I'm in over my head with agar work. I burn through plates like crazy and when I read Lotkid saying he only uses 40 plates every 8 weeks I cannot understand it. Trying to figure out how to get to that point of efficiency once I find and slant the cultures I'm after.

I know the feeling. I bought a Cadco hot plate and it reliably maintains element temperature. No more ridiculous mini adjustments. I can set the dial and walk away. I would recommend saving your pennies and making the investment, it's worth not having to babysit.

Hmm tempting... maybe
But also I may just run jars until the 75x arrives the first week of April.
I'm considering ordering a second 75x this week so that by the time May rolls around I'm good to go.

The 75x takes about an hour to start venting, I vent for 20 mins and then about another 20 to get up to pressure, so nearly 2 hours before shit gets rolling. You'll still need to run your presto for grain master jars, the 75x is pretty shitty for running jars in. Just so that you're aware. Even though you'll have the 75x you'll still be babysitting that presto ; )

Thanks bud. I wouldn't trade it for the world, but honestly... I confess... I am not getting any younger, and it is brutal sometimes. Don't feel like getting firewood? Too bad. Don't feel like bucketing home water? Too bad. Just spent 2 hours postholing through a foot of ice in a frozen bog carrying whole spruce trees in boots held together by duct tape and have to handwash laundry all evening/night. Definitely not for everyone lol. Mush cult is sort of more satisfying at the end of the day when you have to suffer for it though. You learn a LOT about how environment affects your grows.

Idk, when I dropped her off at the vet he suspected poison and so did I. When I picked her up, he said that he thinks she was just high AF. If that's the case, it would have to be active mushrooms from the horse pasture, I've never seen anything like this before, I don't have anything inside that she could have been exposed to because I have a room designated as a mycology lab and no dogs or kids allowed. I treat it as a sort of "Clean" room so am quite particular about things laying around and nothing is ever on the floor. This is my private space and I let it be known to everyone and everything. My dog is also trained to never enter the kitchen for any reason. Anyway, she walks around with me while I take pictures and collect study materials for the microscope, but I've never seen her show the slightest interest in any mushroom outside of a quick sniff. Now that I look back, it makes perfect sense that she was high. She was terrified when I found her, tail between her legs running away from me urinating heavily as she ran, it was like she didn't recognize me at all. I had to open my back door and go back to the backside of the property where she fled back to, as I tried to open the door and get her inside. She really didn't seem to know me at all, but my wife was at the back door this time around and she ran in because she wanted away from me. When I came inside, she was in her chair with my wife and when I sat down, her head dropped into my lap. I've seen several seizure disorders in both dogs and people so I didn't feel that was the problem. That's when I thought poison and rushed her to the vet. At first he thought she was coming out of aseizure and took in because I requested that she stay. 10 minutes after I left is when he told me he suspected poison and I didn't mention anything about my suspicions when I dropped her off, so that worried the heck out me. But, when I went back he started telling me about the different drugs he gave her and explaining how they had no results and the labs were all good. That's when he figured she had to be high AF, but he doesn't have anyway to test for specific substances on site. He asked me about medical weed, prescription and illegal drugs but there is literally nothing that I can think of other than the mushrooms in the the pasture. None of my other animals have ever paid them any attention but I guess my Looney Luna did!!! That trip she took cost $500 and I don't think she even enjoyed, I don't even spend that kind of money on myself to get high.

Why are you venting twenty minutes? It only takes 8mins from the time a steady steam is venting for the air to be forced out and the vessel full of steam.
Yes, she's her old self again. I watch her much closer now for sure.

Just for piece of mind that I've got every bit out. I vent my presto for 15, it's always been my habbit. The 75x has a very weak hiss when compared to my presto or 1915x so I like to be absolutely certain that I'm properly venting. It has no effect on the amount of water expenditure in the vessel. I'm not loading 10 to 13 bags of grain just for them to go bacterial because my temps weren't reached because of improper venting.

Doc- I know seizures can be somewhat common in heelers and I have seen mine go through a few but what you described definitely didn't sound like that. When my dog has one, he tries to find me and come to me for comfort until it passes. I'm glad you have your buddy back. I know that is a terrifying ordeal to go through.
Mr. Mushie- not sure if this would work for you but I always had similar issues finding the equilibrium on my stove to keep psi where I want it. I recently started using a propane fish fry burner so I could PC in the garage without disturbing people in the house and holy shit do I love it. Only used it like 3 or 4 times so far but already have a good feel for it. I can bring it up to temp, vent, the through the rocker on (presto 23qt) and once the gauge hits 16, I turn it down and doesn't fucking move. Like at all. I was amazed at how well I can control it with just the cheap ass regulator that came with it. The down side however is making sure you have enough propane to finish the PC cycle.
I confess I cut it real fucking close tonight on that aspect. Made it to within 10 mins of the timer before tank ran dry. I always wait a few mintues before starting timer so I'm hoping that little bit of wiggle room means I'm not wasting these jars but I won't know until they do or do not contam. Here's hoping.....
