I confess: I have never grown a PF cake
When I first thought of culting shrooms (many years before I ever bought a single spore) I remember watching RR vids (not knowing that was RR back then) and being convinced thats how I would go about it when the time came.
When the time finally did come I jumped right to grain and shoeboxes, it kinda feels like I'm missing something tho. Might be some cakes in my future

I also skipped cakes. At first it seemed like a rite of passage but after reading it began to look like cakes would actually be more labor intensive and require more monitoring.

lol I remember lurking shroomery when I was still in school in 2003 and deciding it was way too difficult with all the weird shit people had going on.
Iโm so glad I started with shoeboxes too, I did run a couple half pint cakes just to do it but youโre not missing much imo. I was extremely underwhelmed with the five shrooms on the cake after having a couple good shoebox flushes.

I skipped cakes also, but I think the TEK has been so refined, that it's not much of a jump to shoeboxes. I mean agar sounded fun right off!
And if I ever did a video of Uncle Ben's Tek, this would be the theme! @Munch!

I did the same thing maybe 15 years ago and decided it was too hard. When I finally thought I could it, I started with 16 pf cakes, expanded 1 cake to 10 qts wbs and got really lucky. From that 1st syringe I bought it turned into over 2#'s dry on my 1st attempts. Glad it worked out! Had I failed hard I probably would have gave up.

Iโve been pushing shoeboxes to replace them for beginner grows for a while. Especially with a top layer shoeboxes are way more forgiving. I know now itโs my dry climate exacerbating things but Iโd have a little too much air and come back to blue cakes.

I have 3 jars of oysters just sitting in a half assed chamber. They were a little yeasty so figured Iโd see if they would do anything. I got a couple pins thatโs about it. Now they are just about every color of nasty you can imagine. I walk past them every day and think about disposing of them... I never do. Thatโs a problem for tomorrows me.

Lol nice. I am finally getting back into growing oysters again this week. Got a syringe of phoenix oysters sitting in my PO box right meow. Felt like lately I've getting way too many amazing/lopsided (my end being lackluster) trades from members and thus I confess... I bought it off Etsy...

Speaking of oysters I'm about to try to start growing those. I also just bought Pink/Blue/Golden syringe off Etsy lol. Does anyone have a good tek or post that deals with oysters? Never tried them before.
I did a little reading and it seems using hardwood pellets and soybean hulls is an accepted substrate for them with good results. I bought some bags and intend to try to find the soybean hulls as online they usually only sell it by the ton Will be my first time using bags and not just jars.
I can't decide if I want to buy an indoor greenhouse or an outdoor greenhouse. If it goes indoors it would be in my garage. Outdoors would be behind my house.

I like pf cakes for fun once in a while.
Iโve grown quite a bit of oysters. I could never find soy bean so I supplemented with bran. Super easy to find. Heard soy beans are better but never got to try myself, bran worked well enough I never tried too hard to find soy bean.
I confess I just poured plates for the first time in over a year and between the coffe jitters, tiny little plates and wobbly SAB I made a bit of a mess. Damn rookies!

I confess, I'm in mushcult withdrawal, so much I want to do but absolutely no time to do it.
on another note, all of my diabetic brothers and sisters out there, y'all please be careful. My mother was diagnosed with diabetes back on January 30th, she's now literally fighting for her life because of it. She had what appeared to be a red circular area appear on her backside after losing her balance and sitting down hard. At first she thought that it was a pimple, but within 12hrs the area had grown to be the size of a man's hand and turned black, she's now in a medically induced coma and has lost her entire backside, between the thighs and on the sides of the hip to the infection. She developed necrotizing fasciitis causing synergistic Gangrene, all from sitting down to hard, the skin was never broken but the capillaries had been damaged by her diabetes to the point that tissue Death started occurring immediately. They have literally taken all the skin, fat and most of the muscle in 3 days from her belt line down midway to her knees on her backside. Yesterday, when I went to see her, I was checking tissue profusion in her feet and noticed areas on the sides of her feet that look like dark wine stains, this is what it looks like when the tissue starts dying. Last Friday it seemed like the surgeon had finally reached healthy tissue and was getting ahead of the infection but yesterday she said that it appears that healing has stopped. Her diabetes is the cause of this, it just goes to show how bad and fast things can get out of control from a simple blunt force trauma for diabetics. Please take care of yourself

I also skipped the bs and went straight to agar and mono tubs and before my first batch of grains were finished I was building a hood. But Iโm an obsessive researcher who forgets 99.8% of what I learn.

Me too. I've done both, but prefer the shoebox because I can grow multiple genus at the same time, same place or multiple species without taking up a lot of space.
