Amazing how your training and profession were aligned with those circumstances. Sometimes the universe does weird shit. Sorry for your loss but glad you and your father found peace. Be well Doc!

2020 has been a shit year for sure, it started on 30 January with my mom breaking her left arm and leg, only to avalanche into much bigger issues. My daughter is still battling her cancer. we won't know anything for another month or so. Doctors haven't even started on the cancer in her throat, but have been focusing solely on the abdominal cancer. Hopefully, what is in her throat is secondary to the abdominal tumor and not a separate issue all together. Everything that has happened makes me feel like I'm trapped in a vicious cycle of Murphys law or something. I mean what I said about the support I've received from you guys, it truly made a difference and meant the world to me.
prayers up for you and your family

I hate to hear that, Doc. Sending some love your way. At the end of the day, the thing that is most precious in life is other people you love. Nothing tops that. I think we as a society are forgetting that fact more and more each day. Although he's gone, I'm glad to hear about those last days you got to spend with him. Having an opportunity for a little closure like that can really help with the grieving and healing process.
I confess I've been in a funk the last few weeks of really not feeling like doing any agar transfers. I've been keeping up with spawning tubs, harvesting, g2g, etc. But I just cant get myself to do any a2a work. I keep telling myself I'll do it tomorrow. I've just been so busy with work that I have to choose between agar work or guitar and the guitar does away with my stress better. I actually just had to throw 6 good looking plates in my myco fridge to stall the growth so it doesnt hit the edges before I tranfer to new plates. I figure a few days in the fridge wont hurt in order to give me a few days to get to some free time this weekend.

Proud of myself for jumping back into the hobby after making the decision to transfer that plate pin and some other mycelium....
Until my stoned ass mindlessly just cleaned out 3 plates I was gonna pull transfers from thinking they were contaminated...
Don't smoke weed and practice mycology or do, just don't blame me for stupid shit.

Doc
I'm so sorry to here about your father.
In reading your post its clear to me that you did a hell of a great job for your family and community. I know it still sucks and hurts but don't lose site of the fact that everything you did during this crisis improved the situation for everyone involved. This world needs more of you.

1. Sometimes while observing a funny looking fruit or determining mold vs bruising I'll smell and nibble on it to see how it taste. Every time I do that it taste like fresh mushrooms.
2. When my daughter comes near the magic lab she will say; it smells like yogurt (or mold or disinfectant or vegetables). Every time she is correct. Two days later it shows bacterial growth or bread mold or clean growth.

I must confess I really want to secretly dose my parents at some point and have a heart to heart with them. Everytime I go to see them they end up arguing about meaningless shit. They are alcoholics and need help. They won't ever willingly ask for help and I've suggested mushrooms a couple times to them and while they don't mind that I take them they claim they wouldn't ever try it as they "couldn't handle it". Probably because they are older and have just heard the crazy stories about mushrooms and not the positive aspects.
I just feel like they have so much they could gain mentally about themselves and the problems they have.
I hate seeing them be miserable.
(Although I realize I probably won't ever do this as secretly dosing someone isn't the most ethical thing to do and could go badly)

I confess that I've misjudged my dried mushrooms' potency. One week ago I've tried 0.5g with negligible results, today I've had 1g with tea and lemon juice. Not quite enough to boost me into space, but it gave me a peek. One of those thoughts I've had was sharing this experience with the few people I consider my friends. My family though, tough sell and most likely a bad idea.

The myc really didn’t seem to mind and still colonized everything. Spawned it a few days after this pic

Then here’s the tub at seven days

Weird stuff. I should specify when I do spawn bacterial jars it’s always in a shoebox by themselves. This yeasty one was mostly just cuz I have nothing going on right now.
I did have this happen once before around New Years and I set the jar aside and forgot about it. When I found it a few weeks later it had been totally colonized too and gave me one good flush before molding.

Update? Appreciate you posting these types things. Helps people get a better understanding of what there doing or trying to do. +5

I confess I sliced up my plate pin when everyone told me not to. There were like 2 inches of sweet shroom tissue hanging out above the agar. I tried pushing it down into the agar to get it to stay but it wasn't having it. So I sliced it up and dropped it into 4 more plates.
I'm glad I didn't toss all of my plates when I had a shit ton of contam issues (we're talking about 22/24 pasty plates, like horrible). After a few transfers I'm pretty sure I have cultures of AA, Malabar Coast and natalensis. I'll be posting agar pictures tomorrow or later this week in the agar thread depending on their growth.

Same here
That yeasty tub is pinned up, quite a few side pins but I’ve never had a clean tub of playa uvita in any condition. Idk if it’s cuz it’s basically still wild or what.
My healthy ms tubs have pinned very gradually to where I’m harvesting a few mushrooms each day. Haven’t tried this clone yet but looks similar so far, kinda mutated but that could be the yeast. Hopefully. First pins showed two days ago.
A bunch look like PE pins.
I confess the tribe hood giveaway has got me all worked up. Tried not to look at it since the first time I saw it and had a few people pulling for me. Those guys are the best.

True confession,
The first time I ever shared my homegrown mushrooms, the guy I gave them to was drunk when he ate them and jumped out of his buddy's moving vehicle. Tuck and roll baby.
Another confession,
Another buddy from around the way who has schizophrenia, ate some of my cubes and found his mind while walking through a maze in his head. He said when he reached the end, he found a treasure chest that contained his mind. He's still bat shit crazy tho lol
I feel like a fucking bush doctor brah

I did vote for sure.
You know what’s really weird is my strongest trip ever I also found my mind in a maze. Only it was this red ball of light and everytime I thought something bolts of white light would shoot out of it. Then that transitioned into an OBE which seriously changed my beliefs on consciousness.
Super weird how things line up sometimes.
