I confess I planned my spawning perfectly with my schedule for vacation so that they would be pinning/about done when I got back. Well then hurricane Sally's bitch ass came and I had to move it up a week.

Now I have phat pins and i'm leaving tomorrow for 5 days.

Gonna be coming home to some mature, overripe, sporesplosions.

Can you drop the temp by chance in your grow room to low 60's? That may slow JUST enough to let you get back before the caps start turning up and shit.

Can't believe I didn't start slants sooner. But never to late I guess :crazy2:

And Gan unfortunately I cannot the room doesn't have a central AC running to it and I don't really have the means to lower the temp other than a fan which wouldn't really do much tbh.

Good thing covid didn’t start during canning season or cult would’ve suddenly become a crazy expensive hobby.

No PCs, jars, iso, gloves.

Idk, I’ve been going through it. Used an instant pot the first 6 weeks until I could find an actual PC. Have had issues with iso and gloves too, luckily I got a box of gloves from work. Mid 2020 has probably been worst time for me to decide to start cult

I'm in the same boat homie, I got lucky and caught a good sized presto from a walmart but jars and iso have been a bitch, gonna start spawning with bags if I cant find something good before my plates fill out

Make some spaghetti and use those jars.
Or anything else that comes in a jar

I confess I’ve killed some prize cultures by screwing the lid of my slant down too tight.
Don’t make my same mistake. Back it off 1/4-1/2 a turn and wrap the seam in parafilm or Syran wrap for a wee bit of gas exchange.

:seriousthumbsup:

I spotted something looking like a veil starting to tear, snipped off the two mushrooms doing that and ate what amounts to 5g wet. The next morning I looked closer and realized that might have been just the cap separating itself from the body

I'm not sure though, maybe it really is time to harvest.  Judge for yourself:

Well I’d say those could go another 12 hours at least. You can let the caps open, and as they do the stipes are likely to lengthen a bit too. Just don’t wait too long after the caps are fully open or you’ll have spores everywhere. Spores don’t affect potency but the don’t look very good.

Also... this is a confession thread not so much an advise thread 😊

I wish I had looked into food jars sooner. Using an instant pot I could only do one quart and had to tilt it so the lid would fit.

Yesterday I finished a jar of pickles and it’s perfect size. Short and fat. I bet it holds just as much as a quart with room to spare.

Just gotta dump the soapy water out, pop a nail through the lid and slap some tape on there.

Thats for preserving food.

The seal is only a one time use, but a perfect seal is not needed for grain spawn

I confess that I hope this thread doesn't get tossed to the wayside after the failure thread came to be.

This has been one of my favorite threads for YEARS.

I also confess I was trying to shove my scalpel into a stainless steel straw to make those perfect transfers.

I pushed it in as far as I could then held onto the straw and pounded the point of my scalpel into some  wood. It didn't go in as far as I wanted, so now its way too long to be smooth in the sab,  and I bent the tip...

Wasn't too thrilled, but it might make things easier.

I confess that my SAB sterile tek isn't good. I originally put an exact knife blade in a stainless steel straw but went back to using just a plain old scalpel. Until I get my sterile tek on point I have no business introducing another object to the sterile zone if it isn't nessecary.

I usually end up with 3/20 contaminated plates while pouring and another 3/20 that contam during a transfer. I currently have 1/20 plates that contaminated after transfer. That means none were contaminated while pouring... I keep checking every day not believing it was possible and waiting for atleast a blob of bacteria to pop up. 🤷‍♂️

Never hurts to take a video of your work to watch where you fucked up.
Helps to post it so others can critique it as well.

It also helps to do one transfer at a time and break in-between to assess what could have gone better

I just might make a vid. I think I'm going overboard with the sterile tek shit. I put a wet towel on the table and place the sab on it. I wipe down the ceiling and walls with iso and after a few minutes, I spray a few mists of soapy water into the box. A few minutes later I wipe everything thats going into the box down with iso and carefully put it in position. Everything goes on top of a 3 high stack of blank petri dishes. Gloves, arms and scalepl are always wiped with iso and the blade is flamed before every transfer. I try to work fast while using slow movements.
