I’ve seen people do mineral oil preservation of fruits...

I confess I get a lot of satisfaction out of the long challenging game of growing wood lovers:
Psilocybe Cyanescens container grow. Started on agar in January:

I love the aesthetic of that grow psilo. And appreciate people that take the time for woodlovers. I'm just beginning this journey and those are kind of what I'm working towards. Slowly but surely

Im pretty sure it is, Pasty. One day my wife said there's mold or something on the side of our house. Living in the state I'm in thats not a suprise. I looked at it and it looked like big clusters of cobweb. Next day those things were popping up everywhere.

I confess that I havent even scratched the surface of this hobby and I'm already becoming addicted to it. What started as me simply wanting some mushrooms for personal use has turned into a desire to become the best cultivator I can be. I want to try all the methods (except for PF Tek... I confess that any time I open a thread and it starts out with, "I spawned BRF jars" I immediately hit the back button. That method turns me off and I don't know why.) I've only just started agar and I find it very interesting and fun. Maybe someday I will progress far enough that I can contribute and give back some knowledge to the community.

My Sunday confession is this - I was thinking about why I love this hobby so much and I realized it's because it's right in my wheelhouse to be both challenging and educational. I think I've invested weeks at this point (multiple hours per day) reading about mycology. I've probably spent maybe 100 hours actually practicing it (agar work, loading jars, etc.)

I've already gotten way more out of this than I ever imagined when I first started, and it's only been like 6 months. My goal was to get enough to blast me off a few times and maybe give some to some friends. Now I'm doing stupid experiments with prints of things I never knew existed this time last year.

This website has been a tremendous amount of help and knowledge. Thanks everyone

Wow Verum, that’s not like you. Sometimes it’s good to take a break though... gives you more of an appreciation for the hobby.

I confess my master jars are almost to 20%. I have two masters per variety equaling four masters total. I’m going to use the strongest two for masters and the other two I’ll be spawning to get a couple shoeboxes going. I’m pretty stoked to do all this again!! It’s been to long.

After riding the roller coaster of depression, recovery and its relationship to mycology i feel like I'm coming up to a drop that's going to plummet me into a dark place where all my passions and joy is blown away into the void, never to be seen again.

Like this is a confession so that's what I'm doing.

I'm starting to think that maybe I was really just lucky and have no actual skills as a mycologist. After beating depression out last week I was able to find the motivation to start shit again. On Sunday I worked all day prepping and pc'ing. I got streaks on plates for new varieties and species. Got pan g2g done.

This morning my plates are littered with pin mold and my grain jars are starting to show bacteria. My friend who is also getting into mycology who has been relying on me for guidance has also been having nothing but issues for 3 different agar runs and all of this is really just starting to make me question if I even know what the fuck im doing at all.

Like I knew that this hobby was going to be humbling, trying and difficult to master, but this is basic shit that I'm struggling with and it sucks.

I dont want consolation or pick me ups. I just wanted to bitch as an anonymous person and hope maybe someone else feels the same way but decides this post is what makes them decide not to give up. Idk how that could work. But whatever

Once the weather cools off you’ll be amazed how much less contamination there is.

I started agar last November and was doing pretty well until spring hit and suddenly my contam rate went up at least 3x. It actually worked out cuz it shows you where the holes in your technique are real quick. I would’ve been beyond frustrated if I had started out with that level of contams.
