One time I ended up with a tub that wouldn't fruit and smelled like straight up wine.

If that’s south... I’m thinking Antarctica!

I confess I think this may be the most bacterial blotch in the history of the shroomery:

Introducing my 3 months old disaster.
Photo taken today.

This is the same tub almost a month ago

I explained the details to a wise member here and I believe he worked out why my tub failed to fruit. I was over excited with my agar. This is my first grow and I read somewhere that isolating the strongest sector is the goal. So I germinated a plate and transferred 5-6 times, isolating the strongest sectors everytime, before i grow them in LC.
Knocking up the grain was a breeze, myc very viable and fluffy. Once I spawn them into this tub, the growth was slow as fuck. No pins, nothing in three months. Straight coir, no verm, unmodified tub with loose lid. 3-4 times daily spray and fan initially, have since cut back on spraying unless necessary and fanning at least once a day.
Diagnosis: I isolated some shit sector.

That or your coir/spawn was bacterial, or the misting constantly maybe made the sub too soggy. what was the coir moisture content at spawning? Did you do the "squeeze to see if theres only little rivulets coming out" field capacity test?

I pretty much assume it will be months before a single shroom now
I wish the multiple years working on crystal clear dishes mattered. Even with online supervision ever being able to reach proper moisture content on any grain
So I'm stuck with unsatisfactory brf jars with my agar. Sorry for bitching I just nowhere else to vent

If you have agar cleaned up and having trouble transferring that to grain you should transfer agar to LC and then take the LC to grain.

I did the field capacity test. As for bacteria, there are no funky smell so far. So I presume it should be ok contamination wise. I did 50% spawn. Colonization was pretty fast initially. I agree over misting could be the cause of my downfall. But wouldn't it have recovered?

I confess I’m on my first transfers and I forgot how much patience you need for this hobby. Slowly building my way back up though and am looking forward to being legit this time with edibles and medicinals.

I confess I just went in the garage to got more jiffy and verm, picked up the bag and poured it out then noticed a little roach climbing from the bottom of the bag onto my arm and I flopped around the garage waving my hands like a little girl.
Then I walked inside, looked down and there was another huge one crawling on my ankle. Repeat girly running and flouncing around.

I was laughing hard. My respect for the confession. Takes a real man to own up to that.

Dude one time i opened a door at just the right moment and when I was leaving the room spotted this.

Crickets are fine but roaches...
Had to put some poison down for my own roaches this week who have made something of a comeback. I would move out if that thing and its family moved in though!

Yeah I only see a few of those massive shiny black ones each year, makes me shudder thinking about it.
The worst part is how fast they can move.

So is it not like most roaches, in that you leave them to their own devices and they breed exponentially? More of a lone wolf kind of thing?

I’m lucky enough to have three types of roaches here. I think the huge ones are the adult phase of one kind and they mostly seem to be outside. Mostly indoors you get little brown ones.
If I see any inside I can’t rest until it’s dead so hopefully they’re not breeding anywhere. Usually they’re only around during summer when it’s like 105+ outside I think they look for water.
I was ready this year and circled the yard and house with multiple rings of poison. I’ve seen a bunch of dead ones but very few live ones luckily. The live ones were bigger but also clearly fucked from the poison on the way in.
Just another reason I can’t wait for winter!
I have a chihuahua that absolutely loves rolling on roaches. It’s so funny and gross. Sometimes she’ll see one running and she runs alongside it and then dives/rolls so she lands on top of it on her back and just lays there wiggling on it.

We have a chicken inna cage in the living room. One of our cats caught it as a chick and now it's the wife's rescue project. Anyway we get dead roaches showing up from the exterminator, a must here. So I've given the chicken 3 roaches so far, so that now anytime I walk by the cage she's OMG OMG!

you don't like the chicken much if you are giving it dead roaches after the exterminator has sprayed, you are poisoning the bird.
Chickens are great pets and you can even fashion a little diaper for it so it can walk around inside. I've had several pet Chickens over the years
