Just several blocks growing Ganoderma lucidum, Reishi.
    #2394559 - 03/02/04 10:07 AM (20 years, 1 month ago)

Just wanted to share some pictures of some of my Reishi mushrooms.

This bag was folded down and punctured on the top a couple times.

They are by far my favorite of all to date.
These are all growing on large wood based Mycobags.

Some more These bags had the tops cut off about 1" below the top of the substrate level.

I am going to pick some of these this week so I can make some tea.

Those reishi look awesome man!

Im wondering about the fruitbody appearance, do you think the antler growth is a reflection of your growroom conditions or is it a strain specific trait? Some strains apparently produce antlers and some capped fruits. As im sure you know, staments has quite an exhaustive writeup in ggmm on producing the various forms of fruits by using different environmental conditions.

Super grow!

best regards,

Millet

Nice ! What kind of (pipe) setup is that in the background ? Is the wood based substrate better then the corn substrate you used the last time ?

Thanks.
To tell the truth I am beginning to think it is the strain in my case. Initially I tried to get conks to form by maintaining a very high humidity, they never formed.
I like the antler formations because they look so cool but I am told conks give a higher weight yield. I really need these for medication so I was going for yield. Oh well its not a big problem cause I am getting quite a number of these.

Oh that?  :smirk: That is part of my humidification system. Not too fancy and I want to upgrade it soon to another plan in my mind.
Here are some better pictures that show the setup.
the bottom first.

and the top

It works. The 5" silver tube behind it is for fresh air. It leads to a small fan which blows air in. The humidifier and fan are both on seperate timers.

The corn was totally experimental. The fruit did not get much larger so I picked it. A second nob is forming but I am not sure if it will really develope in to anything. One thing about corn is that it is WAY fast. All these large bags were inoculated via a corn to wood transfer. It really made it grow though fast. It will be my standard method for a while.

Once again, killer job!

Why do you have little pieces of pipe under the edge of the blocks?

Oh yes those pipe pieces are to help drainage to keep water from stnading in the valleys of the wood block surface . I am maintaining a very high humidity and I remember that reishi rot I spoke of in another thread. that stuff is nasty :frown: I never want to have that agian. yuck.

What medical condition to you take the reishi for? I am growing some right now to see if it is helpful with anxiety. Do you find that the effects are noticable?
thanks

I suffer from BAD sinus problems. Allergies, inflamation and more. It is a long list but those are the major things I hope to be able to help with reishi.

I too have anxiety disorder. I did not know reishi could help with that. If so add that to my list.

and now it is Harvest time!!!

As soon as these dry I am going to make an alcohol extract and put in capsules. That the plan anyway, I need to try it first before risking all these.

You dry your reishi in a food-dehydrator?

Nice harvest btw

Thanks

I dry them on the trays but not in a drier. I just set them out in a place with good air flow over and under. The trays are a good rack for this.

Reishi taste bitter and they are very fibrous and wood like. Best bet is making a tea and mixing that with something to cover the taste. Better yet is too make capsules from ground up mushrooms or mushroom extract.
I have seen recommended doses that range from 3 gm - 5 gm a day for health maintance. More if you are fighting an illness.

I took 30 gm of reishi mushrooms and cut them up and then put them in a jar with some everclear (180 proof alcohol) and let it soak for 4 days. I shook the mix a couple times a day. Next I poured this in a glass pan and covered with a paper towel. Now I am waiting for the alcohol to evaporate off. I plan on making 10 capsules out of this reddish goop that I will get. My thinking is it will be approximately 3 gm per capsule this way concentrated in a tiny amount of actual material. Previously I have just been stuffing 0.25 gm in a capsule but you have to eat so many to get a good amount of reishi. The extract will be better - I hope anyway.

How to use Reishi
Reishi polysaccharides have high molecular weights of up to 1,050,000, which makes absorptiion by the intestines difficult. Dr. Fukumi Morishige, M.D. found that patients given large doses of Reishi (2-9g/day) had diarrhea, but when a large dose of vitamin C was also given at the same time, there was no diarrhea. Vitamin C breaks down the high molecular weight polysaccharides to a molecular weight of around 30,000, so that they are much more easily absorbed by the intestines.

For general health maintenance and prevention, take 2 Reishi mycelium capsules twice per day on an empty stomach. Also take 500 mg of Vitamin C per day after breakfast.

When a discomfort occurs from minor illness, increase the dosage to 2-3 capsules 3 times per day. Also take 1,000 mg of Vitamin C per day after meals.

For insomnia, take 4-5 capsules before bedtime. Take 2 in the morning. Also take 1,000 mg of Vitamin C per day after meals.

When a serious illness occurs, increase the dosage to 4 capsules 4 times per day. Also take 2,000-3,000 mg of Vitamin C per day after meals.

Some people may experience Vertigo Reaction when they first take Reishi. During the first week, they may experience slight swelling of the head or dizziness. Arthritis patient may experienced a temporary increase in the pain level. This is a cleansing reaction, often called a "healing crisis". Continue to take Reishi and the symptoms will be alleviated within a week.

Nice  kinda looks like G. resinaceus

What other plan do you have in mind for the humidification? I don't quite get what the piping does if you just have an ultrasonic humidifier standing in the fruiting chamber as it appears in the pics.

When the photos were taken had they grown in bags up until that point? Or do you not ventilate?

Very old topic..

But the humidifier seems to be connected to the pipes from the top with a flexible hose, pretty creative. Just hope the humidifier gets fresh air from the outside.
