Anyone else think alcohol is utterly absurd!?

Let me start by saying i absolutely bloody love alcohol and i've drank just about everything over the years - a lot of that time to excess - for fun, to let off steam, to celebrate, to commemorate, to drown my sorrows, to fit in, to enhance an occasion ... I've even spent many, many years brewing my own alcohol to pretty high standards - mainly red wine but also herbal gruit beers and everything in between. Brewing brings out the alchemist in me - i find it meditative - an activity i can lose myself in as i speak to the yeast, play great music to the liquids and stick love hearts all over my barrels and antique glass. I personalise labels, build unique wooden boxes and give much of it away as gifts. Then there is the learning - so many concepts and idiosyncrasies to brewing all the different poisons whether it's relatively simple or complex wines, all grain brewing with my home made boiler setup or dare i say it producing almost pure alcohol from a still which required learning soldering, welding, chemistry, physics, maths ...
Alcohol has pervaded our societies for as long as man has been man and it shows no signs of slowing down - no matter how advanced and sophisticated we think we are or have become, this chemical remains intrinsic to it all - intertwined in everything. Indeed, i grew up in my small society where drinking alcohol is as natural as a cup of tea in the morning - a pint after work, a few drinks on a weekend, wetting the baby's head, toasting an achievement, the blood of Christ... you name it, alcohol is always there and i believe, always will be.
Something i've always known however, and something which due to a period of forced abstinence is coming more and more to the forefront of my mind is that this chemical is absolute shite! I see my alcoholic father and can identify the smaller but exact same negative aspects of the drug in myself. Withdrawal from life on this drug is huge - i see people having relationships with it and going into survival mode afterwards - the dreaded hangover is much, much more than just a physical thing. I see dampened auras - the life always trying to get out, ever present, but dampened by a dark cloud.
When i look around and see a pub on every other street corner, people getting ready to go out and visit a few for the sole purpose of indulging in alcohol, i can't help but think this is totally absurd. This is organised drug taking - why butter it up any other way? The Government has banned and criminalised psychedelics, yet actively supports and encourages the drinking of alcohol - a drug which is seriously damaging unlike the banned yet progressive psychedelics. To say this is sinister is an understatement.
There is much, much more to say on this, but my post is already long so i will conclude: I've had it with this poison. I like waking up every morning looking forward to a new day. I like sleeping well. I like feeling good. And i'm going to stand up against society and stand out from the crowd - mushrooms 3-4 times a year and no more of the poison! 'What!? You don't drink!? But you take psychedelic drugs!?' Well, yes, exactly! Most will think i'm crazy but it's they who are at best ignorant and at worst completely deluded. They may villify me, they may even criminalise me but i've had enough of this absurdity. I'm not damaging myself any more. Anyone else feeling this?

I feel you, but I haven't quit alcohol completely. The drug is great in small quantities, just practice moderation, you won't get hangovers anymore and you'll still have a good time. I rarely drink more than 2 drinks if I go out, and now that I practice moderation that will give me a very decent buzz.

I would love to, but it seems like all or nothing. I had a few the other night - first two craft ales were really enjoyable and i felt i'd had enough, but it was a Christmas party and before i knew it someone had already shoved another pint under my nose. I think i'll be better off, even if it's just a short while, giving up all together

Yeah after switching to quality hashes I have found that I can't really get down more than 2-3 drinks and I never get he negative effects.
I totally agree it's bogus psychedelics are illegal and hey are adding a bar on every corner. I always thought the government legalizes drugs beneficial for control and worker bees. Caffeine and nicotine during the days to keep us productive and alcohol to escape on the weekends but not too strong or mind altering to think of changing ones situations and interactions.
Plus doesn't alcohol calcify the pineal gland?

Totally agree with this - Alcohol keeps us subdued. If all those millions of people weren't drunk and hungover all weekend what might they be getting up to instead!?

I couldn't agree more with you. Until recently, I could've counted on one hand the number of times I've had drinks over the last five years. Lately I've been remembering how much I enjoy the flavors of whiskey and good vodka, though, so I started drinking a shot or less (usually less) every now and then. I don't get drunk or even tipsy at all, I get to enjoy the flavor, and there are no complications. No addiction, either. I very seriously doubt most drinking types could limit themselves to less than a shot every so often. But it's working for me cause goddamn I love the taste of good Bourbon.

I'm not a big drinker myself, but I enjoy sharing a pitcher of beer with my dad at a bar or with some friends.
To the majority of people... yea alcohol is pretty ridiculous. I hate hangovers and I HATE getting too drunk. I don't see the appeal of alcohol. Never did and probably never will.
As I stated before, that isn't to say I don't partake and won't get hammered drunk on occasion if I feel like it, though, it is a rare occurrence. To some people it is the only legal drug, so that's what they do. I know people in the restaurant industry and who work at bars that get drunk every chance they get. In my opinion, mostly for the social aspect. I would get caught into the circle and be forced to go out with them just to have a social life. Back then I would of rather sat at home and played video games or sat on the beach and smoked a blunt... still do actually. But apparently, I'm some sort of social butterfly for people and they like having me around so I go.
As far as psychedelics vs alcohol is concerned. Psychedelics can be just as dangerous as alcohol, if not more so. You could just as easily die of hypothermia on a cold night on shrooms as you could getting shitfaced and pass out in a corn field. Then there's the people who quite literally cannot handle psychedelics+booze and fly off the handle... suicidal, homicidal, flat out do stupid shit etc.
I like bourbon, I like whiskey, and I like my beer. A good table wine is fine also.

Alcohol is useful for the occasional social gathering. Other than that it is addictive forming garbage that just makes you sick and dumb. Unlike a lot of other drugs there is absolutely nothing mind expanding about it. Ive never understood the appeal, even with all the societal pressure to imbibe. I'm at the point where I really hate it- having to deal with alcoholic family members is a fucking nightmare.

I don't drink alcohol at all, I see nothing wrong with it as long as you don't let it get on top of you, but it's just not my thing. I have enjoyed alcohol in the past, and have no issue having some if I am in a social situation, but I don't ever drink when I am alone, and I have not owned alcohol in a long time.
When I was younger and partying I would always be the designated driver, at parties I would usually just smoke weed while everybody else got hammered.

Many years ago i used to smoke cigarettes and i'm acutely aware that when I gave up smoking my alcohol consumption increased somewhat. Again it's funny how society would vilify me for smoking cigarettes but drinking alcohol is just fine. I've also noticed how most drinkers aren't happy at all with the non/moderate-drinkers - oh no, they have to try and drag eveyone else down the hole with them. 'Just have another one, you only live once' is the usual rhetoric drivel until everyone's so shit faced there'll be very limited 'living' from that point on and the next day to boot. Is other people drinking a validation of their own bad habit??

Good stuff. When i feel a nasty cold coming, i drink enough to get nice and hammered, then it usually aborts the cold or at least shortens it. At least i'm a goofy drunk instead of a mean drunk.

Alcohol is tasty and makes me slightly buzzed then slightly depressed. If I drink heaps I get reaaal depressed.
Better than weed for me, which puts me back 5 years with my schizophrenia symptoms.
Better than meth, which for some reason doesn't affect the schizophrenia but destroys half my brain each time.
Stick to da moderate intake of alcohol and occasional mushrooms.
Fuck partying. Just fuck it. I tried, fuck that, I am not a social creature in that sense.

95% ethanol is absurd. Flammable drinks are absurd.
Alcohol and benzos are pretty rad but harsh. I don't like beer but strong cider (8%) or double black vodkas are great. That and schnapps.

I like to have a drink in the afternoon just to calm the nerves along with a few cigarettes, but it just doesn't completely close the gap that I try and close when I'm down. It's an almost mystical substance, it's in a majority of the human intuition to drink. Yet I can never find myself being apart of the culture that humanity seems to adore regarding alcohol.

Although, you'll know what he's drinking, there can be huge differences in absinthe the strengths and blends which effect smoothness, so there's not really a standard.
Cheap ones (like the lower Lafee range and other neon gimmicks) can be high in alcohol, but the blend overall will be inferior.
High end absinthes are smooth enough to be drank enjoyably straight, but it's sacreligious to the intended preparation.
