Finally got the chance to see AT and man, let me tell you, that was one of the craziest nights of my life. That guy is a genius. His mixing was absolutely superb and his song selection included some of the strangest, darkest, most industrial tracks I've ever heard. I was tripping pretty hard and I felt thoroughly disturbed in the best way possible. No joke, about 1/3 of the way through the set the temperature dropped 15 degrees, it started pouring, and the wind kicked up like crazy. Maybe it was cause I was tripping, but I felt like things suddenly got incredibly chaotic, sand blowing everywhere, people rushing for cover while other people started dancing even harder. It was as if he was orchestrating this uncontrollable scene.
If anyone ever has the chance to see him, go, you wont regret it. Heres one of my favorites from the night

I flew out to Houston, Texas to catch him at Day for Night festival. First US show in over a decade
Was a very impulsive decision, but I couldnt resist. Who knows when hell be back in the state. I'm so happy I went. That festival in general was awesome. They had a ton of art installations that involved light manipulation, and the atmosphere felt very dystopian. Really one of the most forward thinking fests I've been to in a long time. Security was also lax as fuck, something I wasnt expecting in texas

Sounds awesome! I would have done anything to see Aphex Twin, couldn't swing it this time though.

I live in Texas, and I could kick myself in the nuts right now.
He is one of my top 3 favorite artists of all time, and I had no idea he just played a show in the states, let alone 3 hours from me.
You lucky motherfucker.

Lucky guy! The videos of his set are pretty good and the music sounds intense. He released a 12" vinyl of some new stuff at the festival merchandise tent or something too.
I'm still loving Syro and his Soundcloud dump tracks. Dude just keeps impressing me.

Awesome that you made it out to that, Oliver Jones. From the clip I saw, it sounded like he played Samurai by Eprom.

Yo I was pleasantly surprised to hear him dropping Eprom. I really had no clue what to expect, but the set had so much non-aphex material. I'm still very surprised by that, but apparently hes kinda known for separating his productions and live sets. Either way it was an incredible experience.
This one really fucked me up. I know its very abrasive and industrial, some people might not even consider it music, but it was such a powerful song to hear in that settings

I just read somewhere that the Butthole Surfers' paycheck from Day For Night bounced.
I wonder if Aphex Twins' check bounced too?

He did. G Jones and Eprom were in the crowd and taking a video of the start of his set and they heard him dropping Samuri and they both freaked out. It's on Eprom's facebook page. Pretty damn cool
Aphex Twin is the kind of name where he's your favorite producer's producer

If I was at that set, I would have rather prefer him soing what he did and playing more recent tracks to see what a guy like aphex twin is into these days. A live set woulda just kinda been a greatest hits set, and I feel like Aphex Twin is way too legit for that
Him dropping Eprom shows how dope Eprom is. That dude is like my favorite producer at this point. His shows are nuts (Shades is dope too)

Yea absolutely, that set was a goldmine of awesome music. I've been going through the setlist the past couple days just checking out all the artists I'm unfamiliar. Here it is if your interested https://www.reddit.com/r/aphextwin/comments/5j0eis/day_for_night_full_tracklisting_discussion/?st=iwzwjtww&sh=b83ed58e

Yea man! I really went for Squarepusher, Arca, Oneohtrix, and Aphex. Squarepusher was my second favorite set of the weekend, dude has so much energy, it was like being at a thrash metal concert, insanely fast and super aggressive

squarepusher is so pretentious imo
its noise and a bunch of hipsters act like they understand it so they can feel superior to people who like music with an actual melody
IDM is hipster shit

nah, it's just different kinda purpose for the music. every music has sort of got a purpose, it's not just a thing you like is all, it's gotta have a purpose, otherwise you won't like it.
