Very Deep Thread 5

If the image wasn't deep enough for you, here are some deep questions.
1) If you had to sum up the whole human species in 3 words, what would those words be?
2) Is what we perceive reality or just a construct of our minds? Can our minds correctly interpret reality or is reality subjective?
3) What is the best way to explore human nature: psychology, philosophy, or biology?
4) Should governments make laws to protect people from hurting themselves?
5) Are humans better at creation or destruction?
6) What are the best and worst parts of human nature?
7) What does the ideal life look like? What does it mean to die well?
8) What do you think about the singularity? The idea that eventually artificial intelligence will advance to the point where computers are more intelligent than humans.
9) Do animals experience emotions? If so, do they experience emotions in the same way humans do? If not, how do they experience the world and what dictates their behavior?
10) What would be the best possible scenario for how the world will develop in the next 25 years?

1) If you had to sum up the whole human species in 3 words, what would those words be?
Stupid fucking cunts.
2) Is what we perceive reality or just a construct of our minds? Can our minds correctly interpret reality or is reality subjective? Both. We perceive true reality, but only a portion of it. Science has proven that there is much we are incapable of perceiving with our 5 senses but we do know they exist.
3) What is the best way to explore human nature: psychology, philosophy, or biology?
All 3 together + sociology
4) Should governments make laws to protect people from hurting themselves?
To some degree. But in a very general sense I say no. If I want to cut off my own hand I should be allowed to do so.
5) Are humans better at creation or destruction?
We create destruction.
6) What are the best and worst parts of human nature?
...I'll come back to this when I'm less cynical and tired.
7) What does the ideal life look like? What does it mean to die well?
Subjective. Only the individual knows what the individual requires to be happy in this life. Alot of it simply mental state though (and I'm in a very bad one right now.)
8) What do you think about the singularity? The idea that eventually artificial intelligence will advance to the point where computers are more intelligent than humans.
Highly possible. After all the only way we know things exist that we cannot perceive is through machinery and complex calculations.
9) Do animals experience emotions? If so, do they experience emotions in the same way humans do? If not, how do they experience the world and what dictates their behavior?
Yes. I can see it. I don't know if they experience it in the same way, I don't think we are truly capable of answering that, but they have a very similar emotional scale as we do. They can be angry, or happy, or jealous, or scared, or excited, or apathetic, or sad. This is for mammals at least. I can't say I've spent alot of time with other organisms but I believe all things that must feed and drink are capable of feeling happy or sad/scared/angry. Emotions are the motivation behind life.
10) What would be the best possible scenario for how the world will develop in the next 25 years
Either we somehow change pretty much everything we're doing right now or contract some sort of disease that kills everyone in the whole world off relatively quickly.

I have an answer for this too.
Because we are all comfortable in our own microbial cloud of disgustingness. And other peoples microbial of disgustingness displaces our cloud and impedes on our safe zone.

Interesting perspective. I wonder what would happen if I met someone who I really hated but then they farted and it smelled bad but it was like I farted myself and for whatever reason it didn't bother me. I guess that is deep love right there.

1) If you had to sum up the whole human species in 3 words, what would those words be? Foolish Self-Preservation
2) Is what we perceive reality or just a construct of our minds? Can our minds correctly interpret reality or is reality subjective? How we experience & thus know reality is subjective
3) What is the best way to explore human nature: psychology, philosophy, or biology? Psychology
4) Should governments make laws to protect people from hurting themselves? No. Against hurting others, yes; but themselves, no
5) Are humans better at creation or destruction? According to the ways of existence- destruction
6) What are the best and worst parts of human nature? Best: creativity. Worst: receptivity
7) What does the ideal life look like? What does it mean to die well? One is free to propagate by the means that they are best; and that one can pass without fear
8) What do you think about the singularity? The idea that eventually artificial intelligence will advance to the point where computers are more intelligent than humans. When intelligence reaches critical mass, the world will be destroyed
9) Do animals experience emotions? If so, do they experience emotions in the same way humans do? If not, how do they experience the world and what dictates their behavior? They do, but they do not have any logical faculties, so it entirely dictates their behavior, unlike humans, which pertain to logic in order to structure their emotional reactions better, and thus are able to sustain a prolonged action/inaction
10) What would be the best possible scenario for how the world will develop in the next 25 years? Working together for the benefit of each nations economy according to their needs, and the will to rise up and do what is best for their welfare

1) If you had to sum up the whole human species in 3 words, what would those words be?
Explosive, visionary animals
2) Is what we perceive reality or just a construct of our minds? Can our minds correctly interpret reality or is reality subjective?
Reality, as an overarching concept, includes our minds and the perceptions within it: it is both subjective and objective, because our subjective perceptions occur within reality, being the objective moment of anything happening at all. However, the qualities of that reality may often be far from understood by ourselves, as we go through life learning to more directly experience the whole of our being.
3) What is the best way to explore human nature: psychology, philosophy, or biology?
I'm going to take the easy route and say that it is of course a combination of all three, and that none of these approaches are better than the others, but include elements of each other and the best thing to do is make an effort to understand them all.
4) Should governments make laws to protect people from hurting themselves?
Yes, but those laws should not have anything to do with punishing people or mandated treatment. There should be laws which ensure the availability of medical and psychological help if it is wanted.
5) Are humans better at creation or destruction?
Destruction is easy: creation takes skill. As a whole, we are better at creation, due to the fact that the pyramids are still standing and that we haven't destroyed each other or the planet yet, but in order to create you also have to destroy, and we are currently creating too much, therefore harming our planet.
6) What are the best and worst parts of human nature?
I would rather let Dostoyevsky speak on this, but for my I would say the best is our gentleness, kindness and affinity for compassion and curiosity, the way a baby can look at a person and make them feel loved, but our worst comes out when we give up on ourselves and humanity as a whole, feeling a lack of love.
7) What does the ideal life look like? What does it mean to die well?
A life in which everyone whom you cross paths with and those who cross your path somehow help each other in the pursuit of happiness, even if it's through overcoming conflict, and it's basically a continuous party and senior moment, simultaneously. Dying well is doing so courageously, and with love on the brain.
8) What do you think about the singularity? The idea that eventually artificial intelligence will advance to the point where computers are more intelligent than humans.
I believe that by the time we are able to create such a thing, it will also be within our power to contain it. The difficulty will be in whether or not we are mature enough to contain it.
9) Do animals experience emotions? If so, do they experience emotions in the same way humans do? If not, how do they experience the world and what dictates their behavior?
They certainly do, I think their feelings are equally as intense as a humans, but perhaps less nuanced and more predictable. They mainly react to physical stimuli and they are completely dominated by impulse and instinct, but nonetheless they are capable of deep emotion.
10) What would be the best possible scenario for how the world will develop in the next 25 years?
Humans, as a whole, gradually combine our efforts to fix the environment, spread the feeling and inclusiveness of warmth and love, and bring constant art, music and research out into public spheres of consciousness as we stop relying on fossil fuels and therefore lose 100% of the incentive for the turmoil going on in the middle east. Also, governments legalize psychedelics and channel huge amounts of revenue into space exploration because space is fucking great!

#8: I still think that is impossible. Conciousness can not be fully replicated. Maybe personality traits. Maybe you can make a super algorithm but that is still not consciousness.

The person is more in the foreground and the sub and sea monster are further back, it's hard to make that more clear because there is nothing to compare it against, since the deep ocean is mostly empty. Does this satisfy you?
Since Chakra, Akira & Cookie took the time to write awesome responses to the super deep questions, I will too. (I'm just looking for a reason to share my opinion because I like other people to agree with me and to think I'm a deep person as well. I do recognize the futility and immaturity in this, but I like to play along with the human game.)
1) If you had to sum up the whole human species in 3 words, what would those words be? Monkeys with ideas
2) Is what we perceive reality or just a construct of our minds? Can our minds correctly interpret reality or is reality subjective? We are correctly perceiving reality, the exact reality we're supposed to. Mind is a modulation of consciousness.
3) What is the best way to explore human nature: psychology, philosophy, or biology? Psychedelics and self inquiry.
4) Should governments make laws to protect people from hurting themselves? No. There is no need for a government whatsoever. Everyone is smarter than anyone, or any group, thus I would prefer a system where every decision is made collectively.
5) Are humans better at creation or destruction? Experts at both.
6) What are the best and worst parts of human nature? Best parts of humanity are our ability to help other organisms and each other, worst part is our failure to do so.
7) What does the ideal life look like? What does it mean to die well? The ideal life is one lived with all the ups and down you are currently experiencing. To say something like "the optimal life is ones lives in complete happiness all the time" is quite ignorant, we only know happy because we have felt sad, and we can only appreciate the ups because of the down, the entire system we are currently living works well. A very immersive illusion.
8) What do you think about the singularity? The idea that eventually artificial intelligence will advance to the point where computers are more intelligent than humans. Seems likely.
10) What would be the best possible scenario for how the world will develop in the next 25 years? Erasing of all borders, erasing of all currency, world comes together and puts all resources towards improving and protecting all life on Earth.

I found your answers to be rather uplifting, particularly the one to the question on the nature of reality and the mind! Feels liberating to trust and or have faith in this experience right now as a culminating moment of inner truth.

Op pulls up to zzzz,s driveway, parks right next to his super expensive car, and there is zzzz waiting out front to greet him. zzzz invites op into his home and op proceeds to interview me/ him..
1) If you had to sum up the whole human species in 3 words, what would those words be?
genuinely good peoples
2) Is what we perceive reality or just a construct of our minds? Can our minds correctly interpret reality or is reality subjective?
some questions are better left unanswered
3) What is the best way to explore human nature: psychology, philosophy, or biology?
just live ur life how u're living it, it'll catch up to u eventually..
4) Should governments make laws to protect people from hurting themselves?
we've got all kinds of people all packed into small cities and stuff, i mean we've dug ourselves pretty deep to the point that i just don't see any other way out for us.. we gotta ride this thing as it is..
5) Are humans better at creation or destruction?
i think we are creators by default, but destruction tends to get the better of us usually due to our own ignorance..
6) What are the best and worst parts of human nature?
best: family and friends
worst: no family or friends, no love, etc...
7) What does the ideal life look like? What does it mean to die well?
i dunno.. but i;d to say to die well means u did all u could in this life, that u gave it ur best..
8) What do you think about the singularity? The idea that eventually artificial intelligence will advance to the point where computers are more intelligent than humans.
there's those "better left unanswered" questions again..
9) Do animals experience emotions? If so, do they experience emotions in the same way humans do? If not, how do they experience the world and what dictates their behavior?
no comment..
10) What would be the best possible scenario for how the world will develop in the next 25 years?
fuck idk, just gotta work together and not against each other.. sum things can't be changed atm, but there are many things that can be change right now which can make up for those things which cannot be changed..

I love the idea of mythical creatures living deep within the oceans. Not sure why, but I've been fascinated by the idea ever since I was a kid when I learned about Megalodons. I still wonder if there are any out there. The ocean is a mysterious place. I need to get back to diving. I used to go all the time when I lived down south

1) If you had to sum up the whole human species in 3 words, what would those words be?
In three words?
Quote:
2) Is what we perceive reality or just a construct of our minds? Can our minds correctly interpret reality or is reality subjective?
The concept of reality is a perception itself. We have no choice but to trust our senses. Even when we have discovered things that go against our senses, our senses still interpret the discovery and perceive the new reality to be true.
Quote:
3) What is the best way to explore human nature: psychology, philosophy, or biology?
These three don't exist as a whole without input from the others.
What is the best way to explore human nature? Art or warfare?
Quote:
4) Should governments make laws to protect people from hurting themselves?
It should, and the people should continue to hurt themselves in protest.
Quote:
5) Are humans better at creation or destruction?
There will always be more bombs created in the name of destroying things than there will be places to destroy with them. On the grander scale of things though, bombs don't destroy matter, and places don't create it.
Quote:
6) What are the best and worst parts of human nature?
Best part of human nature is that we have the ability to question what is best for human nature.
The worst part is that we have the ability to question what is best for human nature.
Quote:
7) What does the ideal life look like? What does it mean to die well?
I'm not sure what the ideal life looks like. I suppose to die well is to find peace with the inevitable while you're alive.
Quote:
8) What do you think about the singularity? The idea that eventually artificial intelligence will advance to the point where computers are more intelligent than humans.
More intelligent how? Computers are already more intelligent in many ways, and less intelligent in others. I suppose we mean to say the conscious application of intelligence in real time.
I personally think that in order to do so, one would first need to make a simulated reality that is on par with the current universe. Something that can simulate real atoms reacting with each other, to create realistic neural networks and realistic hormones, something that can simulate real pain and loss, real love and social desire, something that can develop with a real history behind it to learn from. By the time you've done so, you can allow an artificial intelligence to consciously develop and evolve within it's environment. If you've simulated such a place, you've already created a universe simulator that is on par with our own in some ways, and the simulator itself - not the artificial intelligence within it - is genuinely (not artificially) more intelligent than we are - because it exists as a model for not only one universe, but multiple universes if it changes certain parameters around.
Quote:
9) Do animals experience emotions? If so, do they experience emotions in the same way humans do? If not, how do they experience the world and what dictates their behavior?
Of course they do. Many do experience it in the same way we do. I have doubts that a jellyfish does, but to my perception it's impossible to say that a dog or dolphin or mouse does not experience a world similar to ourselves.
Quote:
10) What would be the best possible scenario for how the world will develop in the next 25 years?
Not sure. Feel it out I suppose.
