Find a subject you completely disagree with and research the opposite.
    #23943810 - 12/20/16 03:42 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Right now the internet has create a major confirmation bias into society. Every argument has been transformed into the worst version of itself and then flung back at the opposition to piss them off so badly that they come back with worse. This leads to people researching things on "I'm right dot com" instead of looking for things to expand their understanding of the opposite side.

That inevitably leads to fake news, bullshit article, extreme hatred and polarization.

So, let's get back to getting smart shall we.

Search for something you know you're polarized on. And read all the facts you can that go against what you believe.

Ex: You're pro-abortion. Then red eveything you can about anti-abortion.

Obviously, most of you won't do any of that shit, but I'm sure that at least one of you will be smart enough to attempt it. When you do, let me know, I have a few questions for you

Its a catch-22. Anyone who would do that already has, and anyone who hasn't never will :strokebeard:

I have never had a position that was wrong. So...there's no point. If I researched against socialism I'd get failed examples, not exactly an arguing point. If I researched anti-choicers I'd see a bunch of fucking shitheads complaining about babies being killed.

which one? gotta be more specific than that.

but i guess i'll wing it. in general, pipelines are a resource, because selling oil is a profitable way to manage resources and trade with other countries, so hence, i'm pro-pipeline. it helps because frakking is only a temporary solution to energy expenditure, at best. we need to focus more on alternative energy systems- but for now, coal and oil is necessitous.

socialism

is always a band-aid solution to when unfettered corporatism is out of control. it puts the power back into the hands of the people, that is, if there is no dictatorial authority to centralize the market expenditures, and it's solely in the hands of a democratic (representative, even better) committee of social citizens.

Good.

Now read about why some are against them and see if your opinion of them changes.

all i can see that's valid is environmental concerns...carbon emissions are one reason why we need to pool more resources into research for alternative energy. but does that change my opinion, no. oil spills, well, that's a terrible thing to happen, but certain regulations can prevent the occasions of such spills. environmental agencies aren't needed, but regulations surely are. unfettered emissions are not good for the environment, and if there is an irreversible effect on the environment, we'll all be sorry- and even if it's only a temporary problem, the solutions will cost much more to the people whom essentially aren't responsible for the lack of regulatory standards/the enforcement of such regulations.

the government body would need to entail a staff administration for a regulatory/enforcement body of the environment. it can be tacked on with the tax bureau for receiving, compiling, and sending checks/auditing (which recieving and compiling should, at some point, be automated- and then have a small regulatory body, itself, to manage the inflow/outflow of checks to correct for any misinformation and errors.)

whoa, went a little overboard there.

obvious answer: given the notion of outbreak due to system failure, or natural catastrophe, the less nuclear energy facilities, the better- coal and oil work just as well, and provide more jobs to the average worker, plus is just safer overall- but as population increases, we may need to rely on nuclear energy; so hence, the main focus should be on researching alternative energy.

I think that nuclear energy is already the best energy creation device ever created because it produces tons of energy  and produces 0 emissions. But people got scared with the Japanesee disaster. If you build a nuclear plant where there are no history of earthquakes, volcano or tornadoes, you can have a solid source of safe and stable energy

that is unless one of those lovely anarchist groups which are so prevalent these days decides to level one with a massive DDOS attack or something. but maybe i'm a little off-base here, i don't claim to know how that kind of thing works. but it's apparently happened in the past where anti-nuclear energy groups sent a virus to a facility, and caused a massive panic there...presumably someone could manage much worse. cyber security...now that's a thing.

You need mechanical kill switches and a lot of security. Just as it should be

I could argue till my face turned blue about how capitalism and monetary systems in general are ruining the world but until I can come up with a plausible replacement there is no point.

Everything I come up with still has the same problem with the monetary system.

Thats not really an opinion, more dissatisfaction with reality. Not the same thing IMO
