Recommendations for a career
    #23943470 - 12/20/16 01:25 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

I'm just feeling out here and trying to get some ideas flowing and I was curious what careers people have that are higher paying than your average menial job.
Specifically are there any careers for which I could just work really hard and learn the right skills as opposed to blowing a bunch of money going and getting a degree?
Are there any jobs that I could do from home on the computer?
I have heard of data entry type jobs that can be done from home and actually pay pretty well, does any one have any experience with those?
I enjoy working with my hands, are there any lucrative trades that I should learn?
I live in Pittsburgh so if anyone is familiar with the area, are there any fields that are high paying around here?

Thanks in advance. I would consider going back to school but it would have to be for something that would guarantee me coming out the other end with a job in hand. People have mentioned Kahn Academy, is that something that would be worth looking into?

Drug dealer and/or pornstar

--------------------
How to get started in bulk:
Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker
BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box
PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series
How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs)
What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain)
Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary)
Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful)
Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

Do you have any artistic skills?

I pay my tattoo artist $150/hr.  He's booked 3-4 weeks out and is new to the area.  Established artists go for $200/hr and are booked 6 months out.

...the whole experience is (and is as) a profound piece of knowledge.  It is an indellible experience; it is forever known.  I have known myself in a way I doubt I would have ever occurred except as it did.

Though I enjoy drugs and sex I think that I lack the constitution for either profession.

Again I don't think that kind of job is right for me but my girlfriend is an extraordinary illustrator so I will pass on this advice.

I've even considered doing trucking but the main drawback for me on that is that I don't want to lease a big rig because that seems like a very big investment for something that I'm half hearted about.

Trades.

Electrian, welder, plumber, sheetmetal worker, machinist, carpenter.

As a machinist you can build your own fully automatic guns.

Craigslist has always been helpful to my colleagues jumping careers or in between jobs

Enlils true purpose is to get us off topic and to cast enough logical doubts so that outsiders viewing this would be more likely to side with his fake opinions rather than our or sometimes controlled opppsotions opinions.

You see if you are too skilled at not falling for their traps and stating logically sound debunks then other accounts who purposefully agree with 90% of the truth join in and get the entire topic off the main points.

It's their 1960s version of damage control and diversion but man it's painfully obvious in 2017

i've found being a sawyer and fuel-reduction worker a passion.  there is no schooling, just lots of on-the-job/personal experience.

it doesn't pay all that great in some areas ($10-15/hr starting), however, where i live, it pays very well.  i generally charge $25-30/hour for standard jobs, and up to $75/hour for hazard jobs, though they are usually done by the job, not by the hour.  it is also an expensive and time-consuming career, maintenance-wise.  depending on who you work for and where, some certifications may be necessary to legally work.

however, even under the safest/most precautionary conditions, it can be incredibly dangerous

another advantage (bonus) is being able to sell firewood if 1) you have access to a woodlot, or 2) the people you would be doing jobs for don't want the wood that is produced

computer jobs often can be had without a degree, though they may require certifications or proof of abilities

Probably. Most of this stuff can't get shipped overseas, or downsized. Getting in a union pays well but you probably got to know somebody. Something like plumbing you can probably learn the trade well from working for others, and then go into business for yourself. I think it would be harder for most to start their own business as a machinest, unless you are super talented.

AS a union worker guys make more. My brother makes almost $100 an hour if he works  Sunday. and 42$ an hour for regular pay (tile setter) They actually haven't got a pay raise in 15 years. The union has to negotiate all the pay raises to keep the medical insurance from going up. That's the thing if your self-employed or            don't work for a good company, the medical costs will eventually kill you, and these guys do get hurt. Most of the construction workers I know 55-60 are on full disability.

I don't know how it is in the South. No unions, less pay but much lower cost of living. I don't know what happens when you get hurt.

Kind of the opposite of working from home, but licensing through a CDL school usually results in a job waiting for you.

i wouldn't count on trucking for a long-term career in this day and age.  maybe for 10 years it will be viable, but there are changes a-coming in the logistics industry, especially as 3-d printing develops
