What is the best way to spread spawn?
    #23943160 - 12/20/16 11:38 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

I have Tupperware of alleni/cyanescens stembutts that has colonized some wet cardboard and wood chips. It is loaded with healthy mycelium and as I am leaving town for two weeks tomorrow and can't continue to baby it I want to spread it around. How best to do this.?

Do you have patches scouted out?  I'd bury it an inch or two below some fresh woodchips in an area that receives a lot of shade and is irrigated often.  Slopes facing north are perfect for this.  I'm planning on planting in areas that have Leratiomyces ceres nearby.  Just as a reassurance that if other mushrooms survive there, allenii and cyans will too.

I know that L. Ceres are a strong indicator, but wouldnt they also be considered a competitor? Feeding from same nutrient source? I know you said spots with them nearby, but would a landscaped area with a high number of leratiomyces ceres not be ideal?

I can see them being a competitor.  I meant nearby, not in the same patch.  I'm sure a hundred feet away wouldn't be a problem, yet you would get a similar microclimate.

afrogus- mix your colonized wood chips and stem butts with an equal part of uncolonized wood chips. Growth will be fast, and you can keep adding wood chips as it colonizes
