I've heard of 10% sterilized bran added on the spawn layers to prevent contamination but probably not when you're already battling green

Nice idea, I'll have to try it some time.  And Drake, you TC you!  Awesome

Update from OP to an old thread in case anyone else is searching because they have a similar problem.

What ended up working for me was to keep the temperature in the low 60s during colonization instead of mid 70s as I had been doing.

I tried lime, ash, soap, bleach, less soak time, more soak time, less drying time, more drying time, etc.  Even a different strain of kings.  All turned green.  I eventually saw someone mention colonizing king bags at less than 65 degrees to decrease chance of mold, so I went back to the beginning and started with a simple ash soak and high spawn rate, hung the bag in my fruit room with temperature around 61, and finally got my first king bag to pin without turning green.  Great!

But the pictures are of what this bag produced.  Not normal.  It also pinned with complete disregard for the holes I punched.  I ended up cutting holes over the pins.  Good move or not, I don't know, but I couldn't help myself.

So I'm happy to be making progress, but if anyone could suggest why the kings look so weird, I'd appreciate it.

RH 85-90%, temp 61-63.  FAE plenty since my regular oysters look great.

Thanks.

Wow, those ARE fucked up looking!  Sorry, no help here, you got me on this one...

Curious what others think.

I'd say mutation, though it could be contamination.
