will these fit?
    #23939947 - 12/19/16 09:28 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Hello everybody! once again I have another newbie question. Tomorrow I will be putting some of my cakes in the SFC on top of the perlite. I read that you should have your perlite filled between the 4 and 7 inch mark in the SFC. I dumped my entire bag into the 110qt container and it filled it to the 7inch mark. I then put in one of my cakes that was still in the jar to see where it would bring the top of my cake to when I do finally place them in and it looks like it will be way to much perlite and the cake will be too close to the top of the lid. will this be enough room or should I remove a few inches of the perlite? I am growing Golden teacher and +B. I would like to keep as much in there as possible to help add to the humidity factor. This cake hasn't even started to colonize yet and it has been just over 4 weeks. I had a total of 12 cakes 1 got contaminated and two did nothing at all, this is one of them. The other 10 are doing great and will be placed into the chamber when I figure this question out. Thanks guys.

Looks like they will work fine, you could remove an inch or two of perlite if you wanted to, 4-6 works great.

Cool thanks for the reply. I just removed some and now should have plenty of room for them to grow. I also rinsed the perlite off and let it drain for about 2 hours. I placed the perlite in the SFC without any cakes yet just to see where my humidity level is and see if I will need to get a humidifier. The SFC is in my small laundry room up on a shelf that allows air flow all around. The back that is against the wall is about an inch or two from it and that's about all I will be able to allow as if it were any further out from the wall it would fall off the shelf since it is a narrow shelf.

No need to worry about or measure humidity if built correctly ( 1/4" holes 2" apart in a grid on all 6 sides and elevated off the surface it's sitting on) Just trust in the proven design and mist cakes directly as needed until covered in very fine beads of moisture, repeat when they have evaporated for the best conditions possible. If you chose to fan a couple swipes of the lid right after misting is fine.  Use a flashlight or lamp to better see the beads of moisture when misting or checking.
