Morakiv makes a SUPER cheap version that sounds pretty decent as well. And for the price of a meal at a Red Robin, kinda tempting

This..
Camillus and Kbar both had military contracts and still make amazing fixed blade knives as well but Cold Steel are my personal favorite..

Got this Gerber Strongarm for my dad. I can say from personal experience that its sharp as fuck. I got a nice scar on my thumb already to prove it.
its perfect size, its got good grip, and it comes with a dope sheath. I recommend it forsure.

Damn, just barely outside what I was hoping to pay. I really like that blade though

What blade does the US Army use today? That would be a good place to look, it would be modern milspec AND mass produced so likely affordable.
Whats the current US military blade?

By "partial tang" you mean it doesn't go to the end of the handle? or do you mean a stick tang? and how the hell do you know?

I'm not big into the military, I know its just metal and plastic but something about owning a military weapon would bother me a little bit. Unless it was like INSANELY cheap for what you get, but for $80 I'd rather not feed the system

Full tang means it goes the length of the handle

The Mora Garberg is in fact full-tang
I believe it's the first full-tang knife Mora has ever released to the public

I feel like tang-iness mattered more like 30 years ago. It used to be that nobody made a good knife if it wasn't full tang. But it seems like partial tang (or stick tang apparently, never heard it called that before) is getting better and better.
Please, if somebody here has purchased a modern partial-tang knife and it was absolute piece of garbage, let me know. But I've been seeing quite a few highly rated knives that aren't full tang
Also, for myself personally, I'm not willing to pay more than $80 for a blade period. So theres a point where its quality and tanginess just don't fucking matter to me anymore. I feel like its more likely for your knife tip to bust off than at the hilt

Dude I'm tellin ya the Mora Garberg is a fucking stellar knife
It was specifically designed to handle any task you throw at it, no matter how rough
Don't get me wrong just because a knife isn't full-tang doesn't mean it's not a good knife, my Mora Craftsman is an excellent partial-tang knife but the fact of the matter is full-tang knives are fundamentally tougher and more robust

The only knives that will last forever are full tang. Get a vintage rusty knife from ebay, thrift store, or a flea market and put a nice edge on it and polish it up. You can get something old and nice for like 3 bucks. Some kitchen knives will work well outdoors if they're constructed properly. Most people don't know the value in an old knife and look at it as junk.

Fundamentally, yes, you are correct. But in practice? If my knife can pry apart two logs, does it matter that it couldn't break a padlock?
Trust me dude, I would love to buy a fucking sick-nasty spyderco tungsten-steel full tang beast of a motherfucker. But I can't justify it, it won't even get used 300 days out of the year. I think whenever I have some extra cash I'll go with that first Mora, its 66% of the price and sounds like everything I need.
If God throws me down some extra cash out of nowhere I'll get that Garberg, it does indeed look fucking awesome
