BRF bag help and bucket questions.
    #23937160 - 12/18/16 03:18 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

So i ordered some big bags 24x12x5.
I was wondering are these to big? I mean how much should I put in each? will it fully colonize? I know every ones gonna say I should spawn it then pull it out and add a caseing layer. Butttt I was thinking I could sterilize 1 to 2 bags a time then after I inoculate them and they colonize opening them up dunking putting back in bag and cover in verm. Iv seen a few grows where they just open the bag add water and close with a clothes pin. But would the verm help? The bags have a filter too, .2 micron idk if it matters. I really couldn't find much on these big bags though.
Im doing some standard pf cakes half pint. Would it be better just to do more of those and maybe fruit in the bags? Also im gonna try using 5 gallon buckets for chambers so I drilled one inch holes all along the bottom about 1 inch up then the middle and the top about an inch down all .25 inches apart l. I was gonna add perlite to the bottom, and cover the top with clear plastic... Would I have any issues? And putting 3 cakes in each?  seems like enough room to me but im a noob so any help... Sorry for the rambling

first off, don't make big ass BRF cakes in bags.  i know they are sold by vendors, but BRF mix gets too compact when it gets big.  flour+water=GLUE with  verm mixed in, so smaller containers are better for that kind of mixture.

for ur case, the size of the filter doesn't really matter.  bags and BRF jars don't really mix either.

most people fruit with SGFC

www.mushroomvideos.com

watch "BRF/PF TEK part 3-4" to see how to build one.  u could use that idea with a 5 gallon bucket instead of a tote if u don't have a lot of cakes.

did you watch it??
THEN:

YES, u drill holes on the bottom, top and all 4 sides-NO exceptions

NO, the perlite doesn't fall out and it doesn't leak water everywhere.

NO-the holes do not need to be filtered or stuffed and they don't lead to contamination.

That's what I figures to big of a bag prolly just toss them or use them when I try grains.. Iv watched that and so much on SGFC and every one talks about it so yeah prolly what I should do I and I know I can do the same with the bucket... But I don't wanna fan or mist every day (yeah yeah I know typical lazy noob) so I figured the inch holes perlite in the bottom and some good airflow out side would do if kinda like a mono I know I won't need a filter with cakes and I saw a few bucket monos but thoes are a lill diff..

just mist when u wake up and when u go to bed dude.  the more perlite u have and the more cakes u have (without crowding) the better the humidity will be maintained.

don't have fans on with that.

i would tell u to look up how to spawn them to bulk so u wouldn't have to tend to them as much, but if ur already too lazy to mister fan, that won't work either :frown:

Not really lazy I suppose just maintain a garden as well and have to mix nutes almost every night but ehh I guess I can handle it ha. I don't wanna get the mist on them correct? Like I should add a screen at the top

nah, u can mist em.  if ur SGFC is made correctly, the holes allow the caps to dry off from the mist in an appropriate amount of time.
