Has anyone considered closing posts by default after a certain time?

To be fair, it doesn't happen a ton, but every once in a while, someone resurrects old threads and folks complain about it.
What if posts were set by default to automatically close after a specified amount of time? Maybe a month, six months, a year, etc. Not sure if there would be a way to do this, but it could turn older posts into read-only threads, resulting in fewer zombie threads.
I don't know if it's even possible, but it seems like an interesting solution to me.

Do you mean closing, as in you cannot add a post whatsoever after a certain duration? Or closing, as in the thread is just deleted?
I see problems with both though, the latter being so obvious I shouldn't comment further on it.
The problem I see with the first option I typed is that we are always learning or gaining new knowledge, and sometimes, for example, I will write a tek or guide and I gain some new insight a year or more later which causes me the change the guide completely. I need the ability to edit that original post and to post a reply telling people what has changed.
Sometimes those annoying resurrection posts are highly relevant.

I was referring to something like removing the ability to add new posts after a certain time has passed since the last post in the thread was made.
The updating information point is a very good one. One potential solution I see is granting the OP the ability to modify/update their post.
And I will certainly agree with their relevance; there's been more than once where I've found a thread exactly because it was resurrected. Just sort of something that came to mind after seeing a couple of zombie threads today. I'm honestly not too bothered by them for exactly the reasons you described.

Folks shouldnt complain if an old quality thread is resurrected for valid reasons. We literally have millions of gems in our archives.
If it was good in the past its still good.
If someone made a super comprehensive thread about something 10 years ago, someone adding to it in a meaningful way only makes the Shoomery a better place.
You don't just read the new books in a library. Often the older books are full of treasures the new ones lack.
Look at a pharmacopeia anno 2016 and 1916. The modern one lists pills and manufacturers, the old one teaches you how to manufacture pills from herb extracts and how to extract those herbs yourself.

Sometimes an old thread contains outdated or incorrect information so I can see where this autolock might be useful.
It might be useful in a forum like Mush Cult where information is regularly changing/updating. Good threads will normally come up when using the (fucking) search engine.
