Wrinkly on Siberian Elm * 2
    #23933789 - 12/16/16 09:47 PM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Habitat:
This was found growing from a living Siberian Elm. My friend is a tree trimmer and found this growing about 70 feet up in the air. What a find!

I know there isn't much further information to be gained from the photo, but I was just wondering if anyone might know what it is from a glance.

Also, I thought the photo was worth sharing!

See the house in the background? I imagine how that little guy thought he had found the perfect solitary spot to spread his spores and enjoy the view, and got totally surprised by my friend gallivanting up the side of the tree to take his photo!

Interesting! That page also states, "Thus, since the false morels are poorly known in North America, the dozen or so species that have been named should in my view be seen as tentative indicators of potential species groups until they are more thoroughly documented and subjected to contemporary study."

Which would explain why it doesn't look much like any of the other photos on the page..I'll tell my friend he may have stumbled across a new species!

It certainly could be a Gyromitra but I'm not completely sold on that yet. The wrinkles could be due to dryness and there could be gills under there. Perhaps we will never know...

Cool find though.
