Starting a data and grow log for Tarragon and Summer oyster.

Origins:

Tarragon oyster (origin), British, extremely rare.
Summer oyster (origin), British var, unique.


Specs:

Summer oyster (Pleurotus pulmonarius).
Tarragon oyster (Pleurotus eunosmus).

I am starting with Tarragon oyster.

Yeah, slow progress. I've been busy making contamination resistant substrates.
The vendor did say they will "improve" packaging, blah blah.

Click on the "origin" links, that's the vendor. They ship to US and Canada now.
You will need to transfer to agar for cleaning, then expand it.

Edit: pH balance to 6 via lime, 2-4g should be enough.

I expanded the Tarragon today, which is expansion two, recommended for Tarragon oyster.
The smell is very potent, a strong fungal smell with a mild sweet hint.

That tarragon plugs you sent me never grew out. I think they are not sterile, not the best packaging with a staple through the bag. I might have time to play with em when i get back from my leave next month, maybe my buddy jose can try to revive it on some of your WL tek ideas as that seems to work well. Sorry i havent sent you your cultures yet, shit has been crazy with work, shrooms, leave and now a TDY.

My old WL Tek is very good, but not as good as my TGF-Tek.

I actually have your summer oyst fruiting now. It is a heavy fruiter which is nice. If you dont pay attention to it and you miss putting it into the fc by a day it will explode with primorida.

My tarragon is a little slow as well. Once I get those into my FC I plan on taking spore prints and starting totally over. I suspect the original culture is at the end of its viable cycle.

I will push my growing info to you so you have more data input. I just dont have the time to keep up with experiments. Work keeps sending me out of state. I just got back from Northern Maine / Canada.

Here are my growing conditions.

70 deg F average temp
90% Humidity
4ish air exchanges a day maybe more.

I need more light because what Im using is not cutting it. Im still tweaking my FC.

Is there any difference between those two in smell, or no different?

Yes there is a difference in the smell. The tarragon has a... I'm not sure how to explain it. Its different. They smell nothing a like except for the mush smell.

The ones in the back are the Grey Dove blue oyster. I know they all need more FAE and light. I'm not fond of growing oysters inside except for the kings. I'm only growing these out to get spore prints. How ever I kinda like how they are growing now. giving me nice caps.

These are from 2 days ago right before I harvested them.

You know I said about those samples having not enough nutrients? I had the same thought as you with the Tarragon.
It seemed to have senescence, and failed to do much, until I added a full complex of solubles.

I put my Tarragon in fruiting conditions today. The smell is extremely unique, I have never smelt any mycelium like it.
Best description: Smells like a combo of 5 sweets, that you have never smelt before and are attracted to.

Its strong enough to travel in the air, a possible issue is attraction to flying insects.
If the flavor is anything like the smell this oyster totally stands out.
