Like back when Reagan got elected. If you turned on the news you'd hear nothing but how shitty he was and how the majority of people didnt support him. Yet he won in nearly every state lol. Like my grandfather said, everyone hated Reagan except the people.
Granted trump is no Reagan but talking to people in my day to day life there is a strong sense that people are not satisfied with obama and the current state of the economy etc. And they certainly do not want another president like him or even worse..
I went to Reagan's inauguration. There weren't any protests. It was festive. I went to a democratic senators party in the Capitol. Nobody wants trump. He's incompetent. People disagreed with Reagan's politics. Nobody is worried about trumps politics because they're too worried about his abilities. They are worried because he's mentally ill. They are worried because he appeals to the dumbest part of our society. They are worried because he believes fake news and doesn't believe in facts.
You must not have a very good memeory, because all these things you say about Trump, were also said about Reagan and they also said it about Bush
Stop acting as if democrats don't pull this same shit every time a republican is elected
It's the same playbook, every damn election

I find it dystopian in the way that, if people don't work, finding purpose is difficult. People will stagnate, and if will be terrible for most unless being jello creatures that have all their needs met is a good thing.
Im not cynical about people, but purpose is difficult enough with the choices we have.
In your idea, we have a bunch of people not needing to do a thing, and programmers and highly skilled workers. You think the 1% has a lot now.

Well we need to figure out how to Not make it dystopian because it's going to happen. It's already happening. That's what's happened to the jobs that Donald trump promises to get back. He's not being honest even though people he's stoking dystopian fears instead of addressing the problem. Other counties are starting to consider the implications. Finland now has a universal basic income. That's a start.

I work with robots on a daily basis, what's supposed to save labor and eliminate people actually has created more jobs because now we have to have people to do the job of the robot when the robot is down, a frequent thing, and we have to have people to work on the robots, it's usually 3 people doing this
Well, I'm sorry that you work with incompetent robots. However, that doesn't change the fact that the robots are taking the jobs

Quote:
The U.S. has lost 5 million factory jobs since 2000. And trade has indeed claimed production jobs – in particular when China joined the World Trade Organization in 2001. Nevertheless, there was no downturn in U.S. manufacturing output. As a matter of fact, U.S. production has been growing over the last decades. From 2006 to 2013, “manufacturing grew by 17.6%, or at roughly 2.2% per year,” according to a report from Ball State University. The study reports as well that trade accounted for 13% of the lost U.S. factory jobs, but 88% of the jobs were taken by robots and other factors at home.

UBI is a terrible idea. Western Europe is riding on the economic and militaristic peace we and post WWII fears have created. We would need a serious wealth surplus to do so, it would still maybe not be enough to live off of, and then we are just throwing money away on people who should be able bodied and working.
I suppose by the time I'm old, there won't be any real men or admirable people to look up to, just technodrones and needs waiting for the nutrient dropper

Well. Then you should campaign to ban robots because they are going to make human labor more and more irrelevant. You can whine all you want about what "should" be or you can deal with what will he. This is my main issue with conservative economics. It is based on ideology. Whether it be trickle down economics, or fantasies about the free market. The shit doesn't work in the real world, but they keep trying it nonetheless.

isnt it you that's whining and saying capitalism doesnt work, that only socialism will work and that we should all be on welfare while the super wealthy just get more wealthy because they still own the robot run corporations and we're all scraping by on the allowance and welfare cheese the government gives us

lol.
so what's the alternative, express it with some detail, I mean wouldnt the option of the robots taking over production and the worker starving to death be the way to combat global warming since when the workers die out there will no longer be a need for production and it can come to a screeching halt
tell us how well socialism has worked as an economic opportunity to enrich the masses
