Storing Jars + invitro
    #23931475 - 12/16/16 03:17 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Hi everybody, i know this subject came up before but i did not find the right answer for my situation, so had to post and ask.

i am leaving for the holidays and have some jars left (PF tek, BRF, will go into SGFC).

6 jars:

3 jars 90% colonized, pinning inside due to high temps and light (i know, i tried) with big invitro fruits inside.

and the rest 70% colonized, no invitro.

I searched and read i can store them in the dark inside the fridge for this duration and it will stop them for a while, which i want to do. BUT in my case, those Invitro fruits... i am afraid they will rot. so i am not sure what is the best strategy with them. the 3 ones without fruit i will put in fridge, but what to do about the ones with pinning and invitro? is it safe to store sealed jars (with the small holes for gas exchange) with invitro fruits in fridge for a month?

Thank you everyone for the help, i am happy to to learn as much as i can from this community!

Nothing is safe, but I do know that it is ok to store fresh mushrooms in the fridge for 2-3 weeks.  If you got to store them in the fridge make sure they are in a cooler bag or box in the fridge so the temp flux don't get it as bad.

I'm gonna say yes because what else can you do?

I Never stored invitro shroomies in the fridge just fresh picked, but it is like the same thing right? Why did they pin before 100% anyway? To Wet?

why not dry them?

would you eat fresh veggies that had been in your fridge for a month?

they pinned early because the substrate might be contam'd.

drying them? i dont understand what you mean by that. to dry them i will need to take them out of the jars, hence opening them and risking contams (basically birthing them). i want to store them as i cant birth them now, as i leave.

i believe the substrate is not contam'd as i had many times pinning invitro and many successful flushes after birthing, with no (other) signs of contams. i think it is light and temp in the room where i put the jars at. but, for sure, i might be wrong.

i thought you had invitros lying around while you waited for cakes to pin
did not realize they were still in the jars.

do not open uncolonized jars.

I bet they will last a long while because the inside of the jar is pretty much sterile. I don't think they'll start rotting soon, especially not in the fridge. They might give off spores, though?? Not sure. :justdontknow:
