Is this Cobweb on my Agar
    #23931401 - 12/16/16 01:42 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Hey... so I noc'D up 8 tasty pasty plates of B+ ms on 12/3 and after about 5 or 6 days I can't remember I started getting growth. It for sure looked like myc. It just looks more puffy. I transfered it 3 or 4 days ago (can't remember). The myc started growing pretty fast, about the size of a nickel already. Just can't tell if it's healthy myc or what. It doeset have any grayish hues. I'm hoping it's just Tomotose? I just need help IDing this.

My Agar recipe was 3 grams potato flakes, 2 grams agar, 1 gram honey and half cup water to 8 plates. I will post better pics whenever I can get a good picture of my Agar.

The green agar is the original agar from the ms... blue are the transfers I opened up one of the greens to get that pic. All my greens even the ones I got my wedges from sorta look like this.. all real white with the puff. With the blues those are the best pics I could get through the blue glad lids. What do you experts think?

Btw this is my first grow... ever and decided I waneed to go from ms>agar>wbs>mono. I've looked it up in search and I couldn't really comfortably diagnosis thus myself. Thanks.

Edit:  So it's not cobweb... but is it something other then myc...

--------------------
How to get started in bulk:
Presto 23-Quart Pressure Cooker
BOD's Simple as FUCK Still Air Box
PastyWhyte's Easy Agar Tek
Munchauzen's Cultivation Video Series
How EvilMushroom666 Prepares His Grains (I use jars with Synthetic Filter Discs)
What is G2G? (Grain-to-Grain)
Damion5050's Coir Tek (I use 5.5 - 6 quarts of water instead of 4. Also ignore step 13 and ignore the monotub completely. The only purpose of this tek is to show you how to make a simple substrate. I also add gypsum to it but not necessary)
Spitball's Monotub Tek (A liner isn't necessary but is useful)
Use 6500k lights throughout the whole process. When you wake up, turn the light on. When you go to sleep turn the light off. It's as simple as that.

Okay so it's not cobweb. Is there a contamination of any sort?

I mean they look a bit more fuzzy in person then they do through the blue lids in those pictures. Maybe I'm just looking for something to go wrong since it's my first time and I'm expecting it. Only one of my original plates got a contamination and it's was a half pea sized flat dark green spot and it showed up gast. Every other plate was clean. And no visible Contams in my transfers... which is werid cause on atleast 3 of them... the wedge got stuck to my xacto and I feel like contaminations probably happened while getting it off Into the plate

Don't listen to kush_zombie they're having a bad day or something, its your first time using agar, asking a contamination question is perfectly reasonable...some people I swear.
anyways.

The transfer getting stuck explains #4 then. 1 and 2 look good:thumbup:

mycelium can appear fuzzy, I think I just read a TC say especially from MS.

Haha. How do you avoid getting it stuck on the xacto... it's sucked. Pretty frustrating.

The most common contamination on agar are trichoderma (mold) and bacteria. With some exceptions (some types of bacteria) a contamination is easy to spot.

True

Don't poke the blade deep inside the wedge. Just enough that you can lift it.

Just make sure its fully cut out, spear it slightly favoring one side, then slide it off using the longer side....if that makes sense. Thats how I do it at least.

no its just myc.

MS to plates always grows like that green plate for me.

you dont get those really uniform looking plates until your myc culture is more isolated.(IME i could be wrong, agar newbie here)

make sure to label your plates!! growing cultures is about identifying what
grows quicker and has the most vigor. might be hard to know whats what if
nothing is labeled/dated.

If it does end up sticking I just pull the wedge back out, just the contact usually transfers enough myc to the new plate... You might not see it, but its there.
