Moonshine questions 1

Hey all
I was hoping I could pick some brains of the moonshine on the board..
I was looking to get a still between 1-5 gallons to play around with an make some spirits.. Can anyone recommend a good still site? I saw a couple cheap stainless setups on Amazon but was weary of plastic tubes and moonshine.. I don't want to spend a fortune but I want to make sure I buy something that will last..
I'm not oppose to making my own if anyone has plans but I'm trying to steal clear since I don't want to blow myself up or start a fire
Also any good mash recipes you would suggest for my first runs?
Thanks!

My favorite moonshine is made from Grandma's Original Unsulphured Molasses and brown sugar. Take 4 gallons of water and heat it to 120F next add 4.5 pounds of brown sugar and stir it all in. Once all the sugar is dissolved add 80oz of Grandma's Original Unsulphured Molasses. Let this cool down to 90F and add airlock it comes with the pot here is link to a realtivly cheap setup. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAASP40M7404&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleMKP-PC-_-pla-_-HI+-+Appliance+Parts-_-9SIAASP40M7404&gclid=CjwKEAiAm8nCBRD7xLj-2aWFyz8SJAAQNalarjuoJ5E7kMxKrwP2AFovpOq3g8xeXSTdYcXgK3q9zBoCWVTw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds Then add yeast I recommend http://www.brewhaus.com/Turbo-Yeast-High-Spirits-Rum.aspx?gclid=CjwKEAiAm8nCBRD7xLj-2aWFyz8SJAAQNala808bbjlVxut2Z2E_JeqcvPdpcS0cPbsKSYWx4nQS0RoCVwDw_wcB but any turbo yeast will do.

Your looking glass your moons around Jupiter and your navigation tables prove nothing. Your heresy is an affront to the church and to God who made the earth the center of the universe. Now-All drugs that can expand consciousness are without medical or social justification and anyone who uses them is a criminal. How dare you claim that an understanding of God is to be found in a white powder? This talk of communication with the inner self, the finding of one's way into the hidden reaches of the unconscious, is New Age nonsense and simply an excuse to use dangerous drugs.

That's actually the still I was looking at on eBay and it's only $100... What's the yeild on the recipe you provided? 2-4 quarts? How's the flavor?
Did you ever use this still? Wanted to know if it let out any steam/vapors or if I would need to make a paste to cover areas..

I have had success with a simple was made of 8kg of white sugar, 1 packet of turbo yeast and about 20L or water. Desolvded the sugar in a little water and topped to 25L.
If your not using turbo yeast, i would ad a bit of yeast nutrition, like a tablespoon per 25L. A drop of olive oil wont hurt as well.
a 50g packet of turboyeast can be shared between two batches, but then i would definately use extra yeast nutrition.
Also turbo yeast creates alot of heat when fermenting, so be careful about scaling the production. it might rise to a temperature where the yeast is killed

You can also use simple baker yeast, fertilizer, multi vitamin tablet and some oat flaks. for a simple sugar mash.

Turbo yeast and baker's yeast both impart off-flavors. They're fine if you're making vodka and charcoal filtering a lot, but if you want anything but neutral spirits, get brewer's yeast.
For the still size - how much do you want out of it? I had a 5-gallon homemade still and I could get about 3 quarts off of it from each run.

I found the cheap birdseed we know an love for other things + lots o sugar makes some pretty good shine mash. Yeasty beasties use the protein in the bird seed as they ferment the sugars. Use the red star yellow packet champagne yeast and you can stretch a single packet by gallons simply by making a molasses or brown sugar starter culture. Also built my own still from a $50 visit to Menard's plumbing department plus a large canning pan from Goodwill. The neat thing about my still is it does not need flowing water to use it- just fill the condenser coil pail and start cooking.

Did you follow any diy when you built it? Or a parts list? As long as it's safe I'll make my own
