Guys my mushrooms are nearly ready, I just bought a dehydrator and found that the minimum is 40 degrees Celsius, (104F) will that be okay? And how long will it take to cracker dry them. Cheers

I find it takes as long as it takes.. No real time answer since it will depend on your location.. Just dry them till the are cracker and when you think they are cracker dry go another 30 to be sure. Better safe then sorry

I get them cracker dry at 70º C for 12 hours, so maybe you'd have to prolong the time. Try 15 hours, then take a mushroom and if it's really cracker dry you won't be able to bend the stem without breaking it, if they don't break that means they need more time in the dehydrator.

Crank it up as high as it will go, I run my Excalibur at 160°f and can dry 12 Oz in about 6 hrs

I use a Nabisco Dehydrator, which with the heating element gets the dehydrator to around 165 degrees Fahrenheit (or so the manual says). takes about four hours to get nice and dry and i let it run an extra hour just to make sure they're nice and cracker dry. afterwards throw them in a mason jar or whatever with some desiccants and you're golden.

I bought a circulating air dehydrator from a known german producer of kitchen stuff. It can be adjusted from 40°C - 70°C. I can dry 100g of mushrooms in about 6 hours on 70°C - then they are cracker dry.
Some guys here dry at 70°C for more than 18 hours, so don't be afraid to loose potency

So it's okay to run them at high heat? I keep seeing forums where people complain that over 95F ruins the potency. Think they were old threads though, just checking

Well I've always set the dehydrator at 70ºC (160 F) for 12 hours and forgot about it till the next day, I thought it was the general consensus but after reading what you all are saying in this thread I'll try 4 or 5 hours next time

Had a friend of mine eat 3 G's of mushies stored my way and he tripped balls.they were stored in that jar for at least two months now,I don't think they lose that much potency or any at all from drying with high heat.

yeah man, you will recognize after a while. that we're very outdated in europe
In german forums they also talk about avoiding dehydrators cause they are to hot and they recommend to dry at open air
Never listen to european growers.
Here are some guys producing wide more than 500g of shrooms every week and they all dry at 70°C for 12 hours and more.
And they do that to LOCK in potency!

I asked that questions some days before and the consensus was: Cracker dry doesn't mean cracker dry, cause shrooms recover some of the hydration after the dehydration process. So when you have them cracker dry after 6 hours, it's good to let them dehydrate for some hours more to guarantee their dryness.
So with 12 hours you don't ruin anything. Bodhi himself drys for 18 hours

The actives dont break down until FAR above 300F.
Heat will not degrade potency nearly as much as exposure to oxygen.
Get them as dry as possible as fast as possible, this means use the highest setting.
My dehydrator runs at about 165F and sometimes I go 24 hours, depending on how packed it is.
They still work.

Actually I like that there is no mobile version of this forum. I hate mobile versions on smartphones.
As Apple startet with its iphone the advertisement was: "This is not LIKE the Internet. This is THE internet".
And that is what I like on smartphones, that you have the website on your phone shown like you are visiting it on your PC.
All these mobile versions of the websites destroyed this advantage of smartphones IMO.

What is, in your opinion, the best way to store shrooms after they are cracker dry? Ziploc? Vacuum? Coffee Filter? In a lunchbox? With or without a small bag of desiccant inside the box/ziploc?

Tell me about it, the other day I was browsing a famous Spanish forum where the "pros" where still shooting spores in honey water (and I mean the real honey that's untifungal af) and even more terrible things... I could not keep reading cos I was beginning to feel nauseated and extremely facepalmy

Yeah man, that is the way germans do, too. They shoot spores in honey water. They say "You should not sterilize rye longer than 50 minutes", they use tin foil as lids for rye jars and put in almost everything perlite. Really in everyhing, in rye jars, in monotubs
They also call trays "Casings", because you put the sub in a case
And grow reports of the real mofo pros in german forums end up with "Oh damn, this tray is contaminated, but good, 1 of 10 trays was fine, I got 1 once wet, nice yield"
