Photopshop Trials
    #2392964 - 03/02/04 12:28 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

So we started learning about manipulating images to form "figure ground reversals" and the like... It was for my class. It was my first formal in depth study of photoshop. SO i thought i would supply some pics. I would like to know how anyone else started out using graphics programs. I think its cool, does anyone know how to make a layer transparent? i have yet to figure this out.

i made this by placing 2 characters.. a Z and an S close to eachother and cut them up a bit... fliipped them. Turned them upside down, put them on top of eachother, did it all over flipped horizontally and vertically. One set i change colors and moved some layers to the front.

ill upload the other one later

i've been self-teaching myself photoshop since i was about 12 or 13, the early days of graphics programs ... from playing around so extensively with the program and thinking 'how best can i approach this drawing technique using the program', i pretty much now can do most anything in photoshop that i can imagine in my head, provided i have the patience ...

there should be an opacity meter when a layer is selected which you can turn from 0 to 100 for transparency ...

hope this helped ...

I can tell by all the good work you do  . It must be nice to be able to use something so well. I work best with my hands, like sculpture and stuff. I just need to get a feel for the material, and i can go! Its been more 2d cause of the classes i have been taking.

But i am much more into the 3d stuff.

Thanks for the tip! Now i can really mess with some images  :stoned: .

beyond that, there are also different layer 'styles' ... to the left of the opacity meter there should be a drop list that starts with Normal ... from there you can choose different ways that the layer manipulates layers below it ...

i've found overlay and screen to be the most useful ones

I had my first experience with photoshop when I was 9 years old. My dad had to buy it for his work so he brought it home and showed me how to play around with it. Photoshop was never something i was obsessed with (I also preferred drawing, even though we had a graphic tablet back then, but the thing was as big as a dictionary and very clumsy) but it was something I always played around with throughout the years; culminating in my present day addiction! I love that you can learn something new everyday if you only put your mind to it.
