Slow Colonization with psilocybe cubensis "alacabenzi"
    #23923018 - 12/13/16 03:07 PM (7 years, 4 months ago)

I'm a beginner with growing mushrooms, and I recently prepared 4 1/2 pint jars.  I chose to try out the "alacabenzi" strain.  I did everything to a "T", and followed the pf-tek instructions; however, I'm noticing the colonization of the jars is taking a very long time, it's been 16 days.  Maybe I'm just being impatient.  Also, the jars look very wet, is that normal?  I thought I put the perfect amount of water in the substrate.  I've been keeping the temperature above 21 degrees Celsius, although the temperature does fluctuate at night when my house gets a little colder, but I don't believe it goes below 21 degrees. One of the jars in particular is hardly colonized at all, just 2 small spots, you can see the one jar in the pictures below, I only took a picture of one of the 2 small spots.  No contamination is happening as far as I can tell which is good. Any suggestions or ideas as to why it might be colonizing so slowly?  Maybe I got a bad sample. Thanks for any and all help!:cool:

My brf jars took a month to colonize in 70F. Your jars look good so far dude. You got a few more weeks and you can birth them.

"Nature loves courage. You make the commitment and nature will respond to that commitment by removing impossible obstacles. Dream the impossible dream and the world will not grind you under, it will lift you up. This is the trick. This is what all these teachers and philosophers who really counted, who really touched the alchemical gold, this is what they understood. This is the shamanic dance in the waterfall. This is how magic is done. By hurling yourself into the abyss and discovering its a feather bed.”
