What book would you recommend an avid mushroom grower to read?
    #23928822 - 12/15/16 10:17 AM (7 years, 1 month ago)

Now that I'm getting into growign p. cubensis, it's fascinating reading about mycology. Whenever somebody drops some knowledge bombs, I always wish to know what their source was for that info.

My profession is in the medical field and I'm very familiar with medical terminology and a bit of microbiology so I'm not afraid of reading technical books. I actually prefer it.

I specifically want to read book(s) that lays out what makes the fungi kingdom so freakin' unique and cool, and hopefully relates it to growing cubes or other psychadelic mushrooms.

Read True Hallucinations by Terrence McKenna. It is a bit pricey to buy new, but worth every penny if you love mushrooms and psychedelics! It is a great story, my new favorite book without a doubt.

OP is probably taking about mush cult books not mckennas freaked out jungle trip reports.(all due respect of course)

Id also stick with papers. books can be outdated before they are even printed.

although reading articles about how mold/fungi grow is interesting stuff.
not active specific just general knowledge reading. you can carry over
the information to cooking. ive learned how to store food sooo much longer
now that i know how molds grow:thumbup:

Spend some time on U of Penn portals. Lots of good stuff.

Just Google around. There is so much to see and learn and it's hard to know where to start. You can read up studies on microbial populations of compost in agaricus operations to the order of colonization of dungloving species to the efficiency of water transport in aspergillus colonies. Just start searching and reading.

Stamets's Mycelium Running is great.

Books are awesome... Even if some of the info is outdated, you can learn a lot by studying the history of the topic. I have many Stamets books, and they are full of useful and relevant information.

I wouldn't be much of a cultivator without them

I know just thought I would mention it, you don't have to believe all the theories and things ( I know I don't ) but it is a good story to read nonetheless, especially if you are interested in mushrooms.

I've heard Radical mycology by peter mccoy, Organic Mushroom Farming and Mycoremediation By Tradd Cotter and mycelium running by stamets were all good books. Also watch as many attenborough documentaries as you can.
