Actually no, stay with your parents and bank some cash. The world is no longer a get out at 18 because you have a good job world. It's become a get get 3 job and build your own business cause otherwise you're fucked world.
If I had a kid, I'd tolerate his presence just because I would want to help him get ahead.

reluctantly, painstakingly, i have to agree with this. however, allowing one's child to stay rent/utilities free is counter-productive for all parties involved, imo

If I could afford my bills no problem, I wouldn't mind. Although, he's shoveling the driveway and doing the dishes. If I see that my electric bill goes through thee roof, I'll negotiate. I put a lot of value on the "you do everything around the house" clause. Now if he's just freeloading without a job, that's another story.

i was raised without REALLY being required to do many chores. i now see how stupid that was of my mom. considering she worked two jobs most of my life, the house was rarely exceptionally clean.
while doing chores/helping out around the house does make a difference, if they were over 18, they would HAVE to be working, and paying a small, fair portion of rent/utilities. just how i feel. hopefully, i'll never have children and this will be a non-issue in my life

Parents could easily make their kids pay half what apartment rent would be and cover well more than the utilities they use. I'm basically an extra source of income for my parents (since I buy my own food and own phone n shit) and I'm still paying 1/6th the average rent around here.
Though I am realistically considering living in my tent when it gets warm enough. Not on their property

Don't sweat it modestmouse, it's not abnormal for you to be doing what you're doing so, check out the data on people between 18-35 still living around their parents. People get a negative image of adults living around their family, but the majority of the time there are some legit reasons why people are still around their parents, as long as you're not being a lazy bum, and helping out with keeping things clean and tidy, and I don't mean just working on your things, but actually helping out you know cleaning up messes which you didn't create, then you're OK.
One sign of an adult mind is when you see a mess you didn't create, but you clean it up anyway because it's the right thing to do. Also, moving out is a major change, so just make sure you use your time around your family to plan the next step of your life carefully, and since they are your family, they should be supportive of whatever decision you choose to make.
My whole family has ping-ponged off each other from time to time, meaning one person might be doing well and the other not so much, so the person which isn't doing well might stay with the person who is until they get their footing and can move forward on their own, that's what family is for.

Well, not a cellar, but, I live in my late uncles house which is a sitting room and two bedrooms, it's my uncles house and he's agreed to let me move in. I pay £100 a month for everything (rent, 'lectric, fuel (that's wood and coal and anything else I can scrounge up) internet and sort out my own food.
Plus I've got use of my uncles turntable and record collection. I'm not that into prog rock but I found some simon and garfunkle albums as well as crimson king. He had good taste.
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/Chipping-Norton.html
That's the asking rate here. Expensive stuff. I am very, very lucky.
It means I can save up, go abroad for holidays and have nice things, that is, when I don't have to worry about the car.

Your uncle sounds rad
Collecting vinyl especially prog rock is great
You should check more out while you can, it is an acquired taste but once you get into it other music is very lackluster IMO. Also you can find a ton of high quality vinyl rips online which sound great and are convenient.

Yeah I know you been in a bad way, you also been being a whine ass lately too. buck up buttercup the world is harsh, get thick skin, and fucking do it. whatever "it" is.
you did argue that smoking cigarettes was feminine, I think not.
The talk of children and cakes and balloons is an allegorical tale of fantasy based upon reality just like alice in sunderland
last nights dosing really made me clear things up in my head this morning, and make things much more cut and dry, I just can't stand people bitching about shit sometimes. I'm sorry but I live in a pretty shitty situation financially, but I get by with a wife and 2 kids off a single income and still pay my bills for us all. You just gotta smarten up and stop people from whiping your ass for you, you can and should do.

in a productive manor and relevant time are very subjective terms. coming out of the woodwork is what I do best. I enjoy working the wood but a girl can't work all the time.
your uncalled for
never pretended to know you and don't care about the "real" you, I care about the you you choose to portray here. dick

There is nothing phallic about a cigarette aside from any obsessively homosexual pareidolia. The world is covered in stick-like objects, one of them being a dick. You know there are trillions of trees on the planet? And only a couple billion dicks.

It is really loud though.

I always lived where I went to school during break because I had to work through college. That shit sucked. But during summer break they would close the sororities and the girls who had jobs would sublease next door!

STFU. Don't pretend you know everyone's situation.
MM - be glad you have parents to fall back on. Some people don't or their parents can't/wont lift a finger to support them after 18. That's just the culture.. In many other countries its almost unheard of for kids to move out until they are married.. it's not uncommon for kids to live with their parents into their 30s. Take advantage of it while you can, assuming you are paying none/reduced rent. Save money.

Ive stayed with family at various points in time, its far better than living with random roommates, but Id prefer my own place or a hammock.
If you're dissatisfied you can turn things around on a few weeks, the big fuck up is when you have kids you cant afford, kids with someone you hate, a fuck ton of debt, a career you hate but are stuck with, no career / plans / objective or motivation to change, lack of courage and decisiveness to follow through, or impending hard time in jail/prison.
Running out of money and trying to sober up is nothing.

Yeah in the grand scheme of things living with your 'rents for a little bit is fucking nothing. I moved out when I was 16 and didn't really have the option of help later on even when I needed it most. Whatever though, made me hard and stuff, LOL. But seriously.. if you can live with your parents for a little bit and get back on your feet, take advantage of that shit to get ahead a little.

I will probably live here for another month or two and then my sister and I are getting a place because shes sick of living with our father (parents are divorced). Split rent 50/50

This is how people with money offer their children a chance to also succeed
Yes hard work is an obvious character trait to be cultivated, but with the ability to focus on what is going to get them there, with less stress it is my opinion that it is a good strategy when your child's future is in mind
Too complex a thought to portray while this tired, but I hope there is some understanding as to where my point of view stems

I get your point but the last thing I would want is to emulate and perpetuate that lifestyle. The world is becoming harsher and harder by the generation. I will do everything in my power to help my children but I am a firm believer in independence. People need to learn that it's ok to be responsible for themselves and no one else. Its a hard lesson that when it comes down to in this world, it's just you. Hopefully your lucky enough to have help but that can never be counted on because you cannot control the randomness of life and the universe.
I don't want my parents fucking bank account and shit, I won't refuse it don't get me wrong, I'm not stupid. But I want to know that if the shit hits the fan in life, that they can die without worrying about me and if the put away enough for me to make it. A burden I would not want to place on my parents nor would I expect anything of the sort from them.
Privilege feeding privilege does what? I'd rather contribute and take my share and be thankful I can provide service in exchange for temporary financial relief.

Thats what I do. I take care of the house, shovel the driveway do dishes feed the cats, pick up milk if we need it etc.
Ive lived independently before. This is them helping me in a time where ive fucked up and need a hand at the LATEST im going to live with my girl again when she graduates in May. Id like to leave earliee though.
I think any family that would not do this is unfortunate.

Just gotta keep on trucking. sometimes shit is rough. Do what you can. judging people is like the opposite thing you should do honestly. Put your feet in their shoes and run a few miles doing exactly what they did and then you'd understand. its hard to do, but if you can imagine doing some of the stuff some people have done myself included, then your perception might be different. Life is crazy short and a wild ride. Just remember its simply a ride. XD

We're not on our own, or at least Im not. I have my family, ancestors and future generations. As well as my friends, community and the nation. I know there are always strangers out there willing to help out, just as I am willing to help them.
When I die my family will be there with me, physically or in my eyes. Even spiritually, all life is one, when I die I accept the same fate as my ancestors and deceased friends.
Working with others makes us stronger, my work is built around the foundation I have and the fruits will be passed onto my children or my nieces and nephews, as well as friends and strangers as possible.
