1st Time Grower. Advice on possible contam? (Ash/Grey colour) PF TEK 1 week since inoculation.

Wondering if anyone can help shed light on this.. can't tell if it's dryer vermiculite or parts of which have not mixed fully with brown rice flour or something. I'm referring to the darker parts of vermiculite. Have looked all over the subs and found conflicting messages about this specific appearance. Inoculated one week ago... Thanks in advance for any info! Am ready to toss them if need be, but would also be helpful to know how it could of possibly happened. It only appears around the mycelium growths, the other parts of the jars and the less colonised jars show this more clearly. This is one of 4 jars but all look relatively similar.

Yeah I would have to agree with Zorro.
Im a noobie myself, But I would not attempt to fruit those jars Symbiosis.
If you are wanting a better analysis from more experienced growers you can wait a bit. I am sure someone with more experience will happen along, But all in all I would boil those puppies for at least an hour to kill off the nasties growing in there and start over.
Better luck next time mate.

How sure are you that it's a bad contam? Is there any chance that his is somehow normal? I can only put it down to a contam'd syringe because it's only at inoculation points and has occurred in all jars only where the mycelium is growing. One jar that is relatively uncolonised has only small traces of this darker colour around a single mycelium growth.
Sorry for all the questions, just keen to expand my knowledge as best I can so I can prepare again for attempt no.2.
Peace!

Hey man. Been busy with the holidays and all. Wanted to check in with you.
Did you decide to toss the jars or keep em?
What species are you growing?
Also, what is the substrate contents of your jars?

Hey dude thanks for getting back to me, appreciate your reply. So far I have kept the jars boxed up and contained in an inconspicuous area of the house to ensure minimal spread of possible contaminated spores. I'm growing P. Cubensis on a vermiculite based brf substrate. The colonisation has continued with no colour changes on the darker parts of the substrate. Basically looks healthy apart from the darker parts that sort of border the mycelium growth.
Any input would be great as I am still 50/50 on whether or not to toss em or not. 1st time grow too. I can update with new photos if that helps.
Cheers

It's easy because there is no good contamination .) If you're intention is to grow Cubensis, then only thing growing on your substrate should be cubensis. It doesn't matter if it's Trichoderma or bacteria or Oyster mushrooms or Reishi that is growing along, if you did not put it there, it is contamination, and it is bad as it will interfere with (and prevent) the growth of your intended mycelium.

You should not even think about throwing any jars that look like those pictures. Only contaminated jars you might consider keeping are bacterial jars, and even with those, you should consider if it's worth it.

Did you flame the needle after injecting every inoculation point?
Do you have dry verm layers on top of the jars?
Do you have any kind of filter on top of inoculation holes?

Also, how much water did you use for your substrate prep? I have noticed that sometimes excess moisture in the verm will make it much darker.
What Tek did you follow? I would have to recommend RR's Lets Grow Mushrooms vids as a good starting point for the basics of BRF Tek.
