Contamination on spawn?

Hey folks, this is some of the first spawn that came from agar. There are some grains that have a tan colour as opposed to white. Not greasy or brown like bacteial, but furry and tan. I don't know what I'm looking at.
I apologize for the lighting in the pics...I don't know how to circle stuff, so the grains are in the 'center' of the photos...Thank you for the help.

The lighting surely does not help but it seems to be a bit bacterial (you can tell by the uncolonized grains pressed against the glass) but not that bad.

How does one avoid this "grains pressed against the glass" bacterial looking problem?

A fuck load of hard work, luck, and dedication. Look around for clean grains with no/minimal endospore treatments, PC at a minimum of 2 hrs, use good filter material, and inoculate with clean agar. Should have 0 bacterial issues. Of course it's much harder than it sounds.

Hey Mad...I've been doing EvilMushroom's grain Tek, which works well, but the PC time is 90 minutes for 1 liter jars...Is 2 hours better for 1 liter? Also, aside from the brown bacterial grains...can some of the rye grains have a tan color and not be contaminated? Khaki tan furry covered... It looks 'normal' but not bright white. I'm using a HEPA and clean plates as far as I can tell. I can try for better photos.

Yes I always do 2 hrs minimum for 1L jars.
Yes do show pics. Myc doesn't always have to be pure white, but tan is not a colour I'd call clean lol

Imo if you have to pc your (quart) jars for 2hours, you should consider switching brands...
However it probably is a good idea to do a 2 hour pc session for a round or two if you're having contam issues. It'll help you pinpoint the source of your contamination

Thanks all. I'm thinking that maybe the tan is just rye grains that are not fully colonized...Possibly drier grains hence the colour?
When we see brown grains pushed against the glass without the greasy look and the 'halo', can that be non bacterial aka normal? Or is that grains against the glass thing generally bacterial? The moisture content of the grains can vary for sure...

Theres the possibility that you prepared your grain too wet. I cant tell much from your pics. If youre noticing grain poking through near the bottom of your jar that could be an indication of being too wet

That may be. Except for those spots, those grains look pretty good IMO

How do you prepare your grains? Everytime I PC past 90 minutes my grains tend to get cooked and dry.

Hey Tira if that's addressed to me...I use a tek by EvilMushroom666. I prepare my rye as follows: Start with specified amount of Organic grain, rinse with hot water in bucket until water runs clear. Fill with water to 2 inches above grain. Add 3-4 heaping Tbs of Gypsum for (7) 1 liter jars, stir to mix, cover with a lid loosely and let sit at room temp. for 18 hours. Pour into my PC and bring to a simmer (85-90 C) On my single burner in the -15C temps this takes about an hour to reach temp. Drain and let sit for 1/2 hour. Lay out in a tray on paper towel for 1/2 hour to dry some then load jars and PC for 90 minutes with foil over lids. I use plastic lids, 1/2 inch holes, and a micron filter disc.
