I'm a software engineer and work from home. Been self employed off and on since I was 17. Just sold out this year though to one of my clients who is basically buying me out so I can work for them full time for more money and less hours.
Economy sucks ass right now, and good jobs are very hard to come by. To get a good job, you most likely have to have a lot of experience, know someone in the industry, and be better at what you do than the other people looking for the same job.

I think corporate America went full retard after the invention of the cubicle.
Which funny enough was called the action station when it was made. The inventor said he would have never made it if he knew what business was going to do with it. It was intended to be like mini portable offices open and uncumbersome. Not 7x5 cubes in rows that simultaneously cuts people off from eachother while cramming them into as little space as possible.

I work in a cubicle transcribing audio dictations for financial advisors, legal types, insurance underwriters, medical professionals, etc. I'm the most productive scribe in my company's 15+ year history
I hate my job but it pays alright and is pretty flexible which is good as I'm a full time student paying my way through school.

I work as a server for a restaurant/brewery. I started a couple months ago as I just moved across the country and needed a job and am kicking ass at it. At times there are only 2 of us working the front of house and there can be 20-30 people easily we are serving drinks, beer, cleaning tables, etc. Which means tips are usually great at the end of the night ($10-15 and out usually for just tips) It's my first service job, but I am great at doing multiple things at once and staying calm when busy so I always thought I would be good at it. My managers are already mentioning to our owners that I would be a good manager when they need one.
I've previously been a swim coach for the past about 4 years and looking to get back into that as well.

Man going to school and working can be rough. No matter which you do full time. Make sure you take your vacations.

Radio tech/installer for 911 emergency communications. On one hand we facilitate comms for first responder to help people. On the other hand I work with pigs daily and earn my living off of bloated government contracts. Yippie. Total noob here btw thanks for having me.

This is a Wartsila 12cyl, its a mid sized engine. I work on some engines twice this size. Weight- is heavy as fuck. I would have to look it up in the technical manual. Cost- is in the double digit millions, depending on the configuration / number of cylinder's 12,14,16 We found a connecting rod that had a small crack when we did magnetic particle testing. We had to change three rods, forward and aft on the same crank through to balance the engine. Three rods cost the government around 2 million. Full consumption - when I calibrate a single fuel pump per cylinder on this engine it's spec is 980ml +or- 5ml at 200 cam lobe strokes, max rpm is 600 with one injection every four strokes X 12,14,16 out put range is 4480-6720 kW

Dude I'm not an engine expert. How much fuel per 100km? How much fuel does the boat need to have on board to do New York - London?
Who the hell makes the peices of machinerie? Your company or special suppliers?
It need to be disassemble into how many peices for transport?
If something breaks in the engine, how long do you think it would take to have the engine repaired???

I have no Idea how much fuel it takes for a ship to travel. I've never piloted a ship lol, I just work on the engines. The fuel tanks on a ship are huge.
My company make some of the engines I work on from raw materials at our factory. Wartsila, MAN, Colt Peilstic are from Europe. We have the rights to work on in the US.
The engine when disassembled components will show up periodically over a few months as it's being dismantled on 18 wheeler flat beds. The block and crank we work on the ship most times because you have to remove a ton of interference and cut holes in the ship to remove them.
Repairs can take days, weeks, months or even over a year. This engine is scheduled for a complete overhaul every 20,000hrs of operating. The ship has two engine rooms with two engines in each one. Working all four engines simultaneously can take a little over a year to complete.

Do you guys build the same engine for several ships are the engines custom built to the size and purpose of the ship? If so, how do you adjust the factory for bigger/smaller models?
