Historical Southern CA Finds

Have a question for you long timers and TIs. Were the finds from subbedhunter420 in the mid and late 2000s like a 1 in a million chance in SoCal ? Were they flukes or do you think someone's cultivated patch or both? Some posts below.
Also is mushroom observer pretty legit, e.g. Cyans in San Diego? Several other, primarily PNW species, were found as far south of San Diego as well. Interested for sure.

Way before my time but are Subbed and Curecat gone from here? SoCal folks...

Bet its not one in a million, but its probably more rare than the pnw. I'll bet if I was motivated and spent 2-3 days looking during the right time in the right places, I could find what you speak of. The mycelium grows pretty easily, but the challenge is having the proper conditions down there to fruit where its rarely that cold. What can I say? They're out there and if you spend the time, you might find what you're looking for.

I realize boot leather is required. I like it. If it weren't for this site, I'd still be kicking chlorophyllum in the fields. Maybe still will. It's fun!

mushroom observer is definitely legit, subbedhunter420's are probably ovoids and were probably introduced by someone at some point. I see him post on here from time to time, not Curecat anymore though.

Im with you. Im in it for the hunt, not the mushrooms. Post your finds! Cant wait to see what you come up with! btw, you're helping to spread the spores if you kick the Chlorophyllum!! but I agree with the fun aspect
