Didn't know if I should post this in Enthobotanical garden or ODD but here goes:Does anyone know if these are Papaver somniferum (opium poppies)? The flowers are light purple with a darker purple lobe on each petal if that helps.

This thread was moved from Other Drugs Discussion.
Reason: They look like somniferum to me but I'll move this to the garden and leave a pointer in ODD as well so you can get a definite ID.

Yes I believe they are, find them growing like weeds around where I live, fuckers are everywhere, no idea on potency though

Holy shit. Yes they are. Potency varies so just extract what you want and then grind up the dried pods into a single batch so that you have some sort of consistency to then experiment with.
Just be careful about scoring them because it's really obvious what you're doing once you start.

Thanks for all the responses! Very excited to hear that they are indeed the opium variety! I have not actually tried scoring them before, only grinding the dried pods into powder and brewing that into a tea which was insanely potent!
Quick question, once you score the pods and allow the latex to leak out is the product that remains once it dries on the outside of the pod smokeable opium? or does it require further processing?

I've tried smoking that before, tasted like shit and didn't do much, from reasearching I found most people said I'd need to further process it to get a good smokable product, brewing like a tea straining a few times and drying would leave a processed residue that I was told to be smokable

It's smokeable tastes fine and does the job. extracts are easy though. Keep it close to your chest.

Tastes fine ? man I can't stand the taste, when I'm making extracts a little bit of vanilla or mint extract goes a very long way....

Yeah those are opium pods. I used to grow them as they are legal here. You can brew up the heads and stalk Keep the seeds, dry em out for planting next year just throw in soil and turn it / water it.
