Are they supposed to look like this?
    #23922264 - 12/13/16 10:53 AM (7 years, 2 months ago)

Forgive me, this is my first grow. Do these pins look alright, with that white on the tips and the sort of flaky looking stalks?

The cake tipped over early on and some of the verm fell off. I got a spray bottle and started spraying them some yesterday because I was concerned they might be dry... there are very small water droplets on most of the cakes. RH is reading 99% so figured they weren't getting dry.

Good to know they are supposed to look like that though. Thanks.

No, its just a tub with moist perlite in the bottom and an air pump on a timer for FAE. I still open it pretty frequently and fan. I didn't exactly know what I was doing when I did this setup. Have learned a lot. I'm gonna try a sgfc or a monotub next time.

You probably will have better results with a regular SGFC. Just take that tub and a drill and give up an hour of your life. But you do have pins so thats pretty dope. They look healthy

try a sgfc right now. its not to late. i tub with perlite does nothing.
air pumps are worthless.

fanning is done to help evoporate moisture off the surface to induce pinning.

thats about it. do not confuse it with fresh air exchange(FAE).

I'll drill holes next time, I don't want to mess with it too much. I have 12 cakes all pinning, I feel like it would be a pain to try and move them right now to drill. Plus plastic would get all inside and I would want to replace the perlite to get all that crap out.

I thought fanning was just to rid stale air hence why its not necessary to fan a properly made and located sgfc as it does it itself?

I am currently operating out of an SGFC ATM. The holes in the SGFC are to allow an air differential that will keep the perlite constantly evaporating the water off of it and keeping your air humid. You will still need to open it every six hours to mist and fan fresh air in there in order to allow your freshly misted cakes evaporate the water off of them. It takes much more than passive air flow to evaporate the water off of freshly misted cakes, and still water is a conduit for bacterial infection

Fanning is done to kickstart evaporation so water doesn't stagnate on the caps after you mist. It's not really necessary in a properly built SGFC.

OP those pins are drying the fuck out and literally tearing their own flesh as they grow. Throw that pump in the trash and build a SGFC. Or don't. Up to you.
