Got an application for a one year plumbing program. Everyone's always gonna need their rusty pipes fixed right? Think it's a good money making idea.

Right on man, good job. If you do get involved with plumbing, you'll eventually see that a lot of people are switching to pex pipe instead of metal or PVC. Pex is awesome, and so easy to work with. We use it in our shop, and installed it all ourselves. Using it to carry our chems and gel from tank to tank, and even used it for our air. The stuff expands a lot if needed and won't bust so easily. So easy to install, clean. Of course existing stuff you'll work on most will still be metal or PVC.... Hell you'll probably even run in to old school clay pipe.... Anyway plumbing isn't a bad gig, I know a guy who works with his 2 sons, they all make good money and are pretty busy year round. Good luck man, hope you stick it out and hang in there with something, someone said it well above as, focus.

Or you can be an electrician like me? I regularly get 60 hours a week doing easy shit and take home almost 1400 dollars a week. I started out at a low pay but 5 years later I've more than tripled what I started out at. I love it and never dreamed I would ever do it. In fact I turned down an apprenticeship 10 years ago, I wish I would have stayed now lol. I could have had my own business by now.

My adice is move if u can.
Or move into your parents house save up money then move to a place that is like temp to hire that doesnt require much training. Maybe u need a new city with more opportunities.
Definitely looking around for a better job that doesn require a lot of skills upfront is the way to go.
Or as mentioned u could get into a trade like construction plumbing electrical or welding.

I start plumbing school next Tuesday. ITs only two evenings a week for 10 weeks. Nothing major, but I got approved for a grant to get to take the course for absolutely free. If I can get a job as just even an apprentice plumber, making 11,12,13 dollars an hour, that's far more than what I've been making. I really hope this works out.

hopefully it does.
i know in my town theres a lot of competition. Some areas have people who hate plumbing so its good for business (no DIY plumbers at home).
my Dad plumbs and has a monopolyu in his town, owns his own business, makes about $70 an hour.

no, u need a licenced plumber as your boss. A journeyman *might* be an acceptable alternative but not sure.
One time, i tried to do simple "house calls" on CL, but i got a bunch of emails "u cant do that, u need to be licenced". So watch out for that.
If i were u, try to get a Journeyman's licence, its well worth the school, pays well.

You still have to be an apprentice first and put your time in. No way around it.

That's great! Why not see if you can speak with a plumber or two, to start with finding out what it will take to be an apprentice? Asking questions, asking for help, I think you will find most people will be quite responsive. Look at the progress you've made just asking on here for ideas. Whether or not you work for that plumber isn't the point, it's to find out what you need to focus on in the class to maximize your work. Think out of the box, start your interview process now.
So, say some plumber you try to ask a question to, is rude for example. Right away, you know you probably wouldn't want to work for them. But, you have to go to them with your hat in hand but with an interest in plumbing. People love to talk about themselves, ask the guy how he got started, he'll likely bend your ear for an hour!
Very happy for you right now, so go get em!

What is on your mind when you wake up, when you go to bed, and more than often in between? Is there a way to make money off of that?
If there is a passion in your life that you feel so tied to that you can't help but do it, than that's the direction to look in for finding a job that will suit you. Maybe start your own company with all that passion. Maybe do the plumbing thing for a while and look for/start a project to direct your passion to...

HAH! You surely do NOT need brains to be rich. Just take a look at the current president of the U.S. Dumbest person on t.v. yet he's rich. Why? because he cheats.
Not to get political, but my point is, money does not bring happiness (ever seen Trump smile? Does he look genuinely happy to you? He looks fucking miserable to me).
That said, we all need money for food, shelter, transportation and entertainment. My mom always said: do what you love and somehow the money will follow. if you are young enough, take that advice. me at 49 it's getting a bit late in the day to start at the bottom.
Good luck brother, Just remember- there are TONS of rich people who are completely miserable! I PROMISE YOU!

I went to plumbing school and then worked for a year and a haft in the trade and ended not liking the work, I then went on and tried other things. I now work for the a city as a parks worker and I love it. I dont know about in most U.S cities but here city work is well paid, unionized and not too difficult. There are usually many positions available at the city and your qualifications as working a janitorial position could get you a foot in the door if you do your resume right. That's just an idea, you may love plumbing and take off with it like some of my classmates. Good luck to you.
